My mother only spanked me very rarely. But I did get slapped ever now and again. Not on a regular basis, but sometimes I would just piss her off, and I would just see her face contort in anger and she would just lash out and slap me across the face. It was never a "normal" thing, but I still remember it very clearly and the feeling of shame and fear.
