With Wolf and Oberst, it seems like they just picked a random set of words that sound "deep", then came up with the meaning later, even though they are probably not even sure themselves.

Yes, but that part isn't about cancer its about getting away from it all in the garden with the cancer patient, nothing metaphorical about it.
