I know, but the version on Good Will Hunting was released to the public ten years before the earlier version was released. That's what I'm talking about.

Gave this record a spin today. It’s good.

Yea, Condor Ave. is one of his best. I think Last Call is my favorite track on the album. It's amazing that he just recorded it in a basement with a 4-track. None of the tracks were intended to be released together as an album, he was basically messing around recording demos.

Roman Candle i consider more a demo than a debut, his self titled was more his debut, even he didnt want to release Roman Candle as an album.

Its a good start, but certainly in the a person finding his footing category.

Not my favorite by any stretch, and the thought people would say its his best is kind of odd lol.

Oh my, this thread is up and I didn't even realize how much time has gone since I listened to Eliott for the last time. He used to be my favorite singer in my 20's.
The album is great. Last Call, Condor Ave, and No Name #3 are my top 3.

I can see how a lot of ES fans might think this is his best record - because its so unpolished and its so intimate - the focus is so intently on his voice and the lyrics. There are no other distractions like in his later albums, especially Figure 8 and From a Basement on the Hill. I love all his albums but I think the appeal of the first 3 or 4 is their relative simplicity. It's just you listening to Elliot singing and strumming. And Roman Candle is the epitome of that basic formula. Its earnest in its simplicity and I think that makes it easier to connect with than the later albums.
