I understand everyone's opinion here and I know exactly what you mean. Green Day doesn't deserve to be bashed just because they are pop rock or mainstream or super successful or have a bunch of teeny boppers in the audience but what about those of us that just don't like them in general. I've had experiences where people are just blatantly telling ME why I don't like a band. That I do not agree with.

Thumbs up

this is probably the first album I ever listened to.

Green day is the first band I ever listened to.

it was my gateway to music.

I owe my music love to them.

amazing album.

This and Dookie are both very good albums, regardless of what the "snobs" here have to say. There is no reason not to enjoy American Idiot or Dookie they are both really good albums and a lot of fun.

Green Day are, like it or not, one of the 10 biggest bands of the last 15 years. They sound great live, play average at worst music and stay out of the way, what else do you want from them?

Their music never fails to be catchy, I'll give them that.

Alfred your a reasonable guy, one who evens like U2, and I'll give you that because despite my disdain for them, I realize different strokes for different folks, what's your opinion?

Do you think people who rip Green Day do so more because they actually don't like them or because they are bitter they got so big while other seemingly as or more deserving acts did not?

I don't actually like them and I have listened to many songs by them. I think they are atrocious and completely at odds with what i look for in Punk. No matter what their music is percieved as now, they started as a punk band and turned into making bland stadium rock. My best friend loves them and I don't knock him for that but I also do not understand why he likes them either.

dookie was a pretty good pop punk album which i certainly enjoyed at the time of its coming out. i don't think american idiot is a good album. some of the songs might be catchy, but catchy does not equate to good. millions of songs are catchy in an irritating way, and that's exactly what i think of greenday's more recent material.
