Gorgoroth's "Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt"

Quantos Possunt Ad Satanitatem Trahunt- 2009

In the time since the last release of pre-Pest Gorgoroth, it seems that the band has taken a whole new turn to their style of music. With Gaahl and King ousted, Infernus had more options to choose from as far as an all star line up was concerned. While Pest has returned, along with Boddel, Ex Dark Funeral-Tomas Asklund is the main "piece" of the album.

The album opens up promptly with an oh-so fitting Aneuthanasia [Painful Death]. If you didn't know who it was playing, you'd think you were listening to some better version of Anthrax. It's THAT thrashy. And the thing about this song is, it gives the listener absolutely no clue to what the rest of the album is going to be like. A great way to start an album; keeping the listener guessing.

Ironically, the next song on the album is Prayer. A song that, I think, was the worst part of the album for me. The song was gritty, which I suppose is Gorgoroth style, but it was TOO gritty and the song lacked that little "zing" you hear in every other song. Prayer is not an AWFUL song, but there is much to be done. Another thing, it reminded me too much of Pentagram and Antichrist Gorgoroth...which is bad because I didn't really like the Antichrist album. It's also ironic that the lowest song on the album was Prayer.

A few songs later, you arrive at Satan-Prometheus. In this song, Pest shells out some nasty opera style vocalization while Infernus provides some background noise consisting of Anti-Christian chants that would probably make Gaahl **** his pants during a Sunday service at Our Lady of Holy Debauchery. At one point in the song, Pest powerfully released "...The Eternal reign of Satan!" And then the song slows down into this epic riff extravaganza sponsored by the one and only Infernus.

The album appropriately ends with a Satan glorifying gem, Introibo ad Alatare Satanas. My advice to you: Don't go into any REM sleep while this song plays in your headphones....it's awful.

Overall, the album was really good. Full of technical genius, stomach churing drum fills and absolutely astounding vocals. The only thing that took away from the album was the slightly less extraordinary, Prayer. Other than that, the whole album is genius. The best Black Metal Album in the last 5 years, I'd say.
