I like doing reviews on albums. I'm new to the Music Banter. But I like to try and spread the word on albums I really love. This is my first review. UFO Phenomenon. This album is more hard rock than metal. But fans in general should get to know this album. Well Phenomenon was UFO's third studio album. The first to feature Michael Schenker on guitar. Michael became the bands third guitarist. He took the spot of Bernie Marsden who from what i know didn't show up for a gig. While UFO was touring with the Scorpions. So UFO offered Michael the chance to join the band and he accepted. I first heard this album many years ago. It influenced me to learn to play guitar. This is a great album. The songs are superb and so is the song Writing. There isn't a bad track on this album. This album introduced the world to Michael Schenker and if you want to check him out. This is a good place to start. Well if you don't know UFO. This is the album to start with. They were a great band. Phil Mogg's vocals on this album are great. The rhythm section of Pete Way on Bass and Andy Parker on Drums. This a great band at there best IMO. Hopefully you'll give this a listed

Hey Mike, I absolutely love UFO and 1970s hard rock is my thing, I`ve more or less listened to everything under the hard rock banner in the 1970s (I`m sure there is still plenty more out there though) As said, UFO were one of the best and Phil Mogg`s vocals the stuff of legend......that guy knew how to perform and he was one of the quintessential hard rock performers. This album is one of their very best, but I can never decide which is the best out of Phenomenon, Lights Out and Obsession. In fact nearly all their releases in the 1970s after the first two were great. "Doctor Doctor" is one hell of a song as well.

Thanks for the review. I don't know anything about UFO except that they exist, and that is primarily because Eddie Truck never stops talking about them on his show. Their catalog is huge, so I wasn't sure where to start, so per your recommendation, I'm going to give "Phenomenon" a spin. Thanks.

My favorite album by them. Some really cool riffs, and the vocals are spot on. Also has one of the most relaxing songs, Lipstick Traces...

Don't buy any album without Schenker, that means avoid anything after "Obsession". This was a great band, that never released shi-ite, during his stint with them. I'd start with the live album "Strangers in the Night", but why not just get the recent box-set of all their Michael Shenker albums including rarities and Peel live tracks? That's what I'd do.

FYI The box-set is called the "The Chrysalis Years"....Schenker did return to the band many years later, but it wasn't as good as the 70s run of albums.

Thanks, focusing on the Schenker era narrows the scope of albums from which to choose. If I don't want to go with a live album to start with, what would you recommend?

I'd recommend this one. But Strangers In The Night is one of the greatest live albums I ever heard

Nothing without Schenker! That may be true in general, but the 1981 album The Wild, the Willing and the Innocent is a classic album and its without Schenker.

^I'd introduce people to the Schenker stuff first, then they have a reference to judge the 80s UFO, which I personally think is not as good.

"Force It" is a great hard-rock album. It's got a flat no-frills production that really suits a really strong batch of songs. "Lights Out" and "Obsession" are near flawless stadium rock records with much better production value and more variety.
