Mother Love Bone - Apple - 1990
Mother Love Bone - Apple - 1990 Genre - Hard Rock Record Label Stardog - Mercury Rating 10 out of 10 Track Listing 1 ''This Is Shangrila'' 3:42 2 "Stardog Champion" 4:58 3 "Holy Roller" 4:27 4 "Bone China" 3:44 5 "Come Bite the Apple" 5:26 6 "Stargazer" 4:49 7 "Heartshine" 4:36 8 "Captain Hi-Top" 3:07 9 "Man of Golden Words" 3:41 10 "Capricorn Sister" 4:19 11 "Gentle Groove" 4:02 12 "Mr. Danny Boy" 4:50 13 "Crown of Thorns" 6:18 Band Members Andrew Wood – vocals, piano Stone Gossard – rhythm guitar Bruce Fairweather – lead guitar Jeff Ament – bass guitar Greg Gilmore – drums My review of Mother Love Bone Apple Well I was a fan of Mother Love Bone before this major label release. I had gotten my hands on a copy of there tape Shine. Had seen them live on one occasion. Couldn't wait til the release of this album. Then I heard the news of Andrew Wood's passing. I got this album the day it was released. Was amazed how great it was and saddened this was a Swan Song for the band. The band would call it quits with Stone and Jeff going on to form Pearl Jam. If you haven't heard this grab it. There style is not Pearl Jam more in a Led Zeppelin style with Andrew Wood's Marc Bolan of T Rex type vocal style. Andrew's lyrics here are timeless. The music is very tight and moves smoothly with Andrew's Vocals and lyrics. Man this could have been the biggest band ever IMO. The Stand Out Tracks to me here are Stardog Champion,Holy Roller,Bone China,Stargazer,Capricorn Sister, and Crown Of Thorns. If you haven't heard this. Give it a chance |

MLB is one of my favorite bands! They could have been huge, the talent was there!
Back in the day they had the 'Love Bone Earth Affair' VHS tape and I wish they would re-issue that on DVD. I think someone has uploaded parts of it up onto youtube though. |

I've only ever really liked 'Crown Of Thorns' but the rest of the album is very average. Time hasn't been good to Mother Love Bone, not only are they overshadowed by Pearl Jam (who dare I say it are a better band) but their sound hasn't aged very well in my opinion. I guess you would have had to have been there in the moment and experienced them first hand but they sound far from fresh twenty-two years later.

I must really disagree with Zero 100%. I think if Andrew hadn't passed MLB would of far exceeded Pearl Jam. Only one track I don't care for off this album (Captain Hi-Top). Andrew was a much better vocalist than Eddie imo. I like PJ alot mind you I just feel MLB would of done more.
