I was discussing my disappointment in this album with Goofle recently - it really quite sucked. Boring, boring stuff. I knew from the first listen it's not a grower as well, it's a shame.

It's just the songs aren't clever at all. But maybe they're out of good tunes.

The only thing this album is good for is re-kindling my interest in their best stuff.

Are you kidding me? Their last record wasn't that good at all either, but at least it didn't make me want to bob my head and shake my ass to their shitty synth pop with boring lyrics. Only a portion of the album has tracks like these, but dear God it makes me puke in my mouth. This seems to happen with bands that take up synths, it feels forced and begged for more attention. No different for Belle & Sebastian. Not to mention they're playing at festivals this year, what does that tell you? They want money. It's a cash grab sweetheart.

I completely agree.

having a new album with synths and playing big live shows = selling out you heard it here first

I wouldn't consider it a sell out album. It's just boring as fuck.

I might be a little different in saying that I actually wanted them to keep the disco influence over the whole record because I wasn't a fan of these guys through their other releases. I literally listened to all their records a week before this came out. I just hate how they only dipped their toes in the experimentation that actually sounded okay on the tracks they did it on. Listening to the record over again to see if it was a grower made me dislike it even more, and every time I listen to it I find something else I dislike about it. Not bad, but not dazzling either.
