We know what it's not, Lorde.

You would be probably right or wrong depending on reality.
And obviously not Kitty. |

New Years resolution is to admit that I never listen to member albums even if I like their FB links.

20 https://i.imgur.com/zHJMyRr.jpg Clarence Clarity - No Now [Instrumentals] This album is actually a lot better than some of the others I will be listing ahead of it, however, due to It's nature, I think it's appropriate to just stick it on at the end. If there were some added remixes (with or without vocals) I would probably have it as my #1 album of the year. Hot damn, is this thing good. I love the original album about as much as human life, but listening to the instrumentals alone simply elevates the tracks in my opinion. I don't know exactly what inspired the production behind these tracks, but it's the best avant-pop that has ever graced the planet. You cannot refute this. It's simply factual that the original is a masterpiece on every level, and I advise any fan of that album to sit through this and take in the music alone. Pure music. |

i hope it’s a cd of unreleased music |
19 https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....eL._SY355_.jpg HAIM - Something To Tell You Y'all know by now how much of a sweet tooth I have when it comes to music, and these guys have hit the mark for me in both albums. Lush soft rock, with hints of country here and there. Good melodies and songwriting. There's not much to say about the album because it's pretty damn simple, without much variation. But it's so chilled out and dreamy. Good stuff. |
18 https://i.imgur.com/UlWlACw.jpg Link in the image. END - From the Unforgiving Arms of God [EP] Occasionally I take a break from listening to pop, hip-hop and odd synth related music, and delve into something a little more hardcore. This EP was certainly the best deviation from my usual taste this past year. Short, sweet and hits like piledriver. The title track is brutal from the get-go. In fact, every track is pretty fucking great. The vocals don't overpower the music, the riffs kill it and it never gets boring. Check it out fans of hard/metalcore. |
Lurking in this thread.

I'll be slithering around too. Liked the HAIM album a fair amount but it wasn't in my top 25.

Sheer Mag - Need To Feel Your Love I feel like I'm the only person on the forum who ever talks about this band, but I loved them from the first track I heard. They have their niche, and they run with it. Power-Pop with a tinge of Garage-Rock executed to perfection - resulting in a bunch of sweet tunes that range from fun ditties to bellowing anthems. If you're looking for something to fill the gap between Jay Reatard and Big Star, give these guys a listen. I don't think you'll be disappointed. |
16 https://i.imgur.com/DXZdg85.jpg Alvvays — Antisocialites I've always liked Alvvays, and I think they crafted a really good album with this release. It is a lot more consistent than their debut and feels like it is meant to be a whole piece as opposed to a collection of tracks. They even mastered the ability to write songs that straddle the line between jangling and dreamy pop production with melancholic lyrics. This album deserves to be ranked alongside the very best in the genre in my opinion. I think it's just so dreamy and sweet. |
15 http://st.cdjapan.co.jp/pictures/l/02/08/UMCK-1622.jpg Polkadot Stingray - Capacity Had enough J-Pop in your life? How about some J-Rock to cleanse your palate? This album has a sense of fun and quirk that I rarely come across in UK/US rock music, and the singer is so damn cool. Treat yourself. |
14 http://www.rapreviews.com/coverart/lucha-Bobby.jpg Link in the image. Lucha Lonely - The Bobby Lonely Story For quite a few years I have been the #1 K-Dot-O-Dot fanboy on this site. Sure, I wasn't first on the scene, but I have repped his material more than anybody else. So it comes as no surprise that I was ecstatic to hear that he had released a new record this year. The material doesn't really diverge too much from other albums, though it's probably his darkest overall lyrically, and in terms of production. But the important thing is that it's typically smooth as butter, and the guy has more personality in his belly button than most rappers show in their entire careers. |
13 https://cdn2.thelineofbestfit.com/im...arden_Club.jpg Link in the image. Kitty - Miami Garden Club Imagine thinking my baby, my sweetheart, the one true queen and the essence of life wouldn't make my list. Would be CRAZY. But, it pains me to say, this album just didn't quite reach that level I would have hoped for. It's still fantastic, and has deservedly received quite a lot of praise across the board, but I'm just not feeling is as much as her best work. Compared to Frostbite, it's a lot more mellow. The beats are less synth-heavy and it doesn't aim for as many banger choruses, but it does show much more of Kitty's personality and songwriting ability. If you prefer cohesive albums with a nice mix of tunes, you will probably like this the most. |
12 http://cdn.albumoftheyear.org/album/69850-packs.jpg Link in the image. Your Old Droog - PACKS One of the earlier releases of the year that I can't forget about. Absolutely loved this album at the time and it's never left my mind when thinking about the best releases of the year. Great features, beats and an old school boom-bap feel that is oxymoronically refreshing. Won't blow your mind, but it will probably make you feel like ten men ready to bang out some fools. |
11 https://i.imgur.com/97eY5Ov.jpg Link in the image. Chelsea Wolfe - Hiss Spun The queen of gothic rock returns with arguably her best release so far. Stunningly ethereal, sprawling whirls of chaos and that voice. Just a pleasure. It's hard to imagine this album could be topped, but I would have said that about her previous release. This probably would have placed higher if I had listened to it more, but I have to factor that in. |
10 https://i.imgur.com/ogxbNF6.jpg Link in the image. Billie Eilish - don't smile at me Okay so she was 15 when she recorded this album. Feeling insignificant and bereft of achievement? Spoiler for :
As for the album itself, it's rather obvious that she's super young and the lyrics are kinda lame. But there are some tracks on here that are simply great. Nice production, poppy choruses and something uniquely childish that I rather like. |
Still locked.
Excited to see the top ten. |
9 https://i.imgur.com/lpOUnZJ.jpg Link in the image. Scallops Hotel - Over the Carnage Rose a Voice Prophetic This album is so fucking chilled out and cool that it's basically life. Great jazzy and cloudy production, nice lyrics/flow, some big features and just a tasty bite of abstract Hip Hop. Scallops Hotel is easily the best project Milo is involved with because of how weird they can get, and it doesn't take itself too seriously. If you like jazz rap, cloud rap, abstract rap etc. hop on this sheeiz. |
8 https://www.sputnikmusic.com/images/albums/265806.jpg Link in the image. Metá Metá - Gira (Trilha Sonora Original do Espetáculo do Grupo Corpo) Been a fan of these guys for a while, starting from their self-titled EP released in 2015. Their music is probably best described as experimental jazz fusion, with a samba influence. From my memory, this album probably has their most Brazilian sound in fact. The closing three tracks on the album are absolutely phenomenal in my opinion. A complete whirlwind. |
7 https://crackmagazine.net/wp-content...-2-500x500.jpg Link in the image. Charli XCX - Pop 2 I've been an avid Charli stan for several years now. I always liked her singles when she came to prominence in the early 2010's, but my interest in her music increased dramatically with the release of Vroom Vroom. She was probably the first mainstream artist to fully engorge herself in the Bubblegum Bass/PC Music arena - and it was fantastic. And following on from her pretty decent mixtape last year, Pop 2 delves even more into the weird world of Bubblegum Bass and futuristic/wacky pop. The only downside to this album is some of the features. Like, a few are legit trash. But other than that it's just quirky pop heaven. |
6 http://mancunion.com/wp-content/uplo...Xn-500x500.jpg Link in the image. BROCKHAMPTON - SATURATION III This shit right here is responsible for cementing "too many cooks" as a logical fallacy. Damn son. It just goes and goes. Fantastic beats, great lyricism and more personality than most Hip Hop collectives/artists can produce in an entire career. I doubt there's anyone on here who I would expect to like this that hasn't heard it. But if you ain't, just do it. |
5 https://prvnce.files.wordpress.com/2...pg?w=500&h=500 Link in the image. Iglooghost - Neō Wax Bloom Been a fan of this dude for a while now. Chinese Nü Yr and Little Grids were quite good, but they were clearly incomplete. The ideas were there, but they lacked the execution and a real sense of direction. This - however - is a masterful album. It has a structure, feels more layered and complex. It takes its time getting where it needs to and just fucking BOPS. Wonky and glitchy electronic pop eargasm from start to finish. |
4 https://i1.sndcdn.com/artworks-00024...b-t500x500.jpg Link in the image. Standing on the Corner - Red Burns Tell me if this sounds good to you: a heady, experimental and sometimes manic sound collage, mixing abstract hip-hop, jazz, spoken word and even some plunderphonics thrown in for good measure? If it don't, kindly close this page. |
