Question Greater control over threads for their authors....

I think Musicbanter should introduce a system where if you are the author of a thread, you should be able control it.

For example, if you feel that people are spoiling your thread by filling it with spam, you could delete messages which you consider to be 'off topic'.

And I think you should be able to lock your own threads if people start arguing and getting out-of-hand in them.

Your opinions, please....

I agree with this, especially after what happened to my DT thread.

^ It seems sensible, doesn't it?!

What was your 'DT' thread?

My Dream Theater thread. Things got a bit nasty between fans and people who kept slagging the band off, and the whole thread was deleted by a mod.

^ I think it should have been your choice to delete your thread. I have seen the Dream Theater thread. I didn't know that it was yours, or that it had been deleted. You obviously thought that it was a suitable thread topic, and I think it should have been up to you to choose what to do with it.

But, if another user who obviously doesn't use Musicbanter very often anymore (and therefore won't be able to do anything to stop such 'flame wars' in their own threads) - THEN moderators should take the decision to delete the thread themselves.

I'm sure if you PM'd a mod asking them to delete posts you found didn't contribute in a positive way to a thread you made, they would be more than happy to help.

You could always report a bad post. After all that's what it's there for.

^ In that situation though, a moderator might not think that certain posts you report are as bad as you think they are, and therefore might not delete them.

If a moderator is being fair then it won't be a problem.
Their role is to be neutral.
Can you imagine certain members on here being fair with people they just didn't like. Posts would be deleted for no real good reasons other than personal differences.

Imagine the moaning that would cause.

Good opinion. But I wouldn't delete a post by someone I didn't get on with, just because it's them - but I can see what you mean.
