creating a thread

on a nother forum i was on the newbies had to have a cetain number in the post count before they could make a thread, can we implement something like that here???

Reznorslave 03-24-2006 06:59 PM

As a newbie, I'm offended!!! (just kidding)

Ma Cherie 03-24-2006 08:25 PM

i'm sain that the post count was between 10- 50 post, it was likeearning you avatar here, and i partialy understand why because theres alot of newbies that just post crappy threads in the wrong areas with airy topics and get flamed at in them. not that i have a problem with the newbies, just the stupid topics less intelligent noobs put up in the forum.

under 03-24-2006 10:36 PM

I agree with what you're saying but the reason newbies make bad threads is because that's exactly why we call them "newbies."

Newbies should be tracked on their threads until they have at least enough posts to be able to be let go.

rudgrljungalist 03-25-2006 12:54 AM

As a "noob" I have to say there hasn't been many worthwhile threads to respond to. My pathetic attempts to create conversation have gotten me no where. I thought this site was about music, not Paris Hiltons' recent photo shoot :usehead:

Merkaba 03-25-2006 01:20 AM

Well the thing is, the threads you've made, we've heard and replied to it all before.

And you would find some threads you liked, if you searched for them.

On the topic though, I have pro's and con's. Pro's are you don't get all these people coming just to advertise then never come back again. Same with those who don't even advertise, but rather post pointless crap.

The con though is some people want to find a song, and the Song Help sub-forum would be a waste since it's mainly newbies who use it. If they can't make a thread, they can't use the forum, the forum is wasted.

I dunno, I don't think it's that big-a-deal, do you?

MURDER JUNKIE 03-25-2006 01:37 AM

^ I rather enjoy the stupid threads, H.I.M is a bloody god send, I really look forward to his posts.

As for my fellow Lon-Dumper's threads, I know nothing about Indie or Electronic music so I really don't have too much to add to help you out.

I'm sorry for my ignorance

rudgrljungalist 03-25-2006 01:40 AM

Well, I have a hard time sinking my teeth into many of the forums/topics here. If I'm repeating what others have written, its b/c I'm new. I'm not going to waste hours of my life reading posts from the sites' inception to know if this site is, imo, worthwhile. My point is when I went into the Paris Hilton thread, how many people were talking about her album????? No, it was all about the azzzz (don't get me wrong I have a sense of humor, I listen to Jamiroquai!!). And speaking of Paris, her remix of Rapture got me to download it... I feel so dirty now.

MURDER JUNKIE 03-25-2006 01:42 AM

Shame on you

you started threads?

rudgrljungalist 03-25-2006 01:51 AM

Hangs head... I think I even made this face :hphones: oh, and then when my friends caught me they made this one

rudgrljungalist 03-25-2006 01:53 AM

Just to point out no where in your quote of mine does it state that I started any threads....

adidasss 03-25-2006 01:54 AM

it was easier to quote you than to spell your username...

rudgrljungalist 03-25-2006 01:57 AM

I can understand that you need things to be kept simplistic.

seriously though, it's just common sense, if you want people to notice you or remember who you are, you want a better username, you can't expect people to say rundbsdkjbsdrčgitaerčasbdvaćoelist.....plus, i think merkaba's point is not to start threads that were already started ( if that's what you were doing ) , instead, do a search and post your opinion on the band in that thread....it doesn't matter if that opinion has already been voiced....

right-track 03-25-2006 02:24 AM

adidasss your a hard man!

cut and paste...rudgrljungalist ...cut and paste...rudgrljungalist

^ see it's easy, you lazy boy.

rudgrljungalist...I've noticed about 2/3rds of your posts are non music related, yet you complain about non music related threads. You say your not being taken notice of. Your new and non music related posts help people here to get to know you better.
A bit like the ones you posted here.

It's all good.

rudgrljungalist 03-25-2006 02:42 AM

How are my posts non- music related?? Every post I've made is tied to music, otherwise I'd be in other sites. Whatever, I'm not here to get to know anyone I'm here to talk about types of music, music in everyday life. Holy ****, I've only been here what, 2 weeks, and already peoples' throwing stones...

Oh me too, I hunt his posts down haha. I love the stupid, stupid threads like the ones you mentioned but I mean stupid as in "check out this band, I don't have a link and I don't know what genre they are but I'll waste your time anyway".

But for sure, members like HIM give us something to do when we leave your birthday.

rudgrljungalist 03-25-2006 03:24 AM

At first I thought this site was interesting, but all these cynical *******s came out of the wood work. Perhaps I won't be here long either.

Merkaba 03-25-2006 03:58 AM

This site is interesting. With or without cynical arseholes.

If you want a site with perfect, polite, constantly evolving, hospitable users, then go to sleep. Dreaming is good fun.

This place is open to the whole internet world, you have to accept every website is going to have their version of the arsehole. You can try hunting around but we promise you won't find too many places more intersting then here.

The amount of enjoyment you have here is directly related to how you look at things. What you call an arsehole, we call humor. We see the light side of a smartarse remark and thus don't take it seriously. If someone says you have a crap username, laugh it off. People judge what you say, not what you're called.

Yes, yes I am a Guru:)

...and I'm Chuck Norris too but shhhh.

DontRunMeOver 03-25-2006 04:13 AM

I'm not too sure what is confusing about the name anyway. Its just "Rude Girl Jungalist" in internet shorthand. Get with the times people - the typo shorthand and the jungle massive!

I'm split on the topic. Its not about being a newbie, its about maturity. I made a few threads when I first started, but it was nothing stupid like, I dunno, um, how about a name like "My experience to becoming a rocker" in which I went on and on about my long hair(which I actually have short hair, and I'm a chick, but for the sake of my point, play along). But my threads were genuinely interesting and interactive, finding out who everyone was according to their musical preference, and scoping out new bands.

The stupid posts are mainly due to maturity, not inexperience, at least that's what I've noticed.

I mean, look at me and H.I.M., he has more posts than me, but how many pointless comments did he make to get those numbers?

Another good point, there would be more pointless comments to rack up numbers and be able to make the pointless threads.

rudgrljungalist 03-26-2006 12:45 AM

Returning to the original point of this thread...........
^ I'd like to say that I agree. Other sites I've been to have similar rules, and new members keep posting shyte so they have more control. Maybe my threads and replies aren't too outstanding, but I don't think they are immature. I thought it was the mediators job to filter this type of thing??
And regarding my username (mostly specific to adidasss), if you don't like it, frankly u can suck my big fat hairy ballz. :p:

Merkaba 03-26-2006 12:59 AM

^ I wouldn't push that suggestion toooooo far;)

jr. 03-26-2006 01:06 AM

You have to earn respect. Think before you post. I've been here for almost a year, and I don't have 200 posts. I go relatively unnoticed, and that's fine with me. I'm not here to get a lot of attention. I only post when I have something to contribute to the topic at hand. On the positive side of that, I've never had a problem with anyone in here.

Other than a thread I started to introduce myself when I first got here, the only thread I started bombed pretty quickly. LOL. I doubt there are many music topics that haven't already been covered in here. So, I click on the 'new posts', and see if there is anything of interest.

I guess I am still a newbie, but that's okay. People here don't bug me. But then again, I don't bug them, either.

jr. I doubt you could bug anyone if you tried. As for you going unnoticed, I doubt that to.
True your posts are few and far between, but as far as I'm concerned are worth their weight in gold.
Informative, balanced and considered and my guess is most regular members here respect you.
Shame some of the newbies aren't more like you.

rudgrljungalist 03-26-2006 01:33 AM

I don't come on here with the intention to dis what other people write. I check the recent posts and read what others are talking about also. (although I don't recall introducing myself...)The threads I started were intended to vibe out the members of the site (who responded). If people don't find a particular forum interesting, then don't post in it. Yes there are jagg-offs everywhere, but aren't we supposed to evolve beyond that type of thinking??

I think its a stupid forum, along with song of the week club (which isn't even ran or used anymore...) cause do any actual senior members use it? I mean I hate to sound like a jerk, but they're newbies they're coming on with the intention of getting an answer and half the time they quit checking after the first hour and we never hear from that person again. Frankly, I don't see much of a difference between a user who posts once asking for the song and a guest and I hope this post kind of made sense i'm way tired...

Merkaba 03-27-2006 02:03 AM

Yeah yeah I get ya. No one ever goes to the Song Forum anyway. I don't know, I was just spit balling with the ups and downs.

I don't really have a down.

yeah good point. although the song of the week club was AWESOME when we actually kept it up, but i can't even remember the last time that happened....probably before Thrice left I'm thinking.

my point exaclly, we have things that are not used, a newbie comes up promotes or askes about something and never comes back, whats the use? if their sencire they'll go thru the stage and stay on the site, if not they find somewhere else.

Urban Hat€monger ? 03-27-2006 11:19 AM

I`d like to see the song of the week forum changed to a new albums forum.

Whenever a new album comes out (of any genre) you start a thread about it with a poll so people can vote on it saying what they think about it and then they can give their opinions.

After a few months you basically have a whole forum full of album reveiws & discussion

I think this site is crying out for something a little different along those lines.

i agree it would be nice to have something like that

Frances 05-07-2006 10:27 PM

Let the noobs post!
I searched for good forums & nearly gave up. They're all crap with bad moderation
When I started I posted 2 completely stooopid threads, I got disciplined, And then I said, Wow! I've actually found a good site.
I probably should have changed my username, but I like it and so do you.
So, it stays. As do I.

I think bad posts are funny as f***! Watchin everyone get their backs up really makes me giggle.

And people here are pretty cool too.... Except you. Ha.

The same could be said about several posters, with plenty more posts and time here. The only difference is, once a person's been here a while, they post crappy threads with airy topics and get flamed at in them...only in the correct forum.

I think everyone, at one point or another, may have posted somethng useless. Why are people tolerant of the vetereans doing it, but not the newer posters?

i don't think that's true, i know i've been ripped a new one once of twice for making retarded threads...and senior members ( such as myself ) have learned their lessons and do that sort of stuff less frequently than new users...

All my threads are retarded http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...p/badteeth.gif
