Public Referendum On The Future Of MusicBanter

Should the Name That Tune forum be scrapped ?

No. If it gets scrapped all those posts will pollute the rest of the site. I think it's best to have a containment area for them.

They can all be put in one thread rather than have a whole forum dedicated to them.

Yes, I've been hear over four years and the forum doesn't do anything remotely productive. Besides if its gone there won't be a giant influx of those sort of threads, they search for a "name that tune" type forum in google and it pops up thats the problem.

Akira 12-17-2008 04:33 PM

Maybe, but I typed in 'need help naming tune' into Google and came up 7th. Most requests are from people who just pop on to find out a song and then leave. it wouldn't be bad if it were regulars using it but none do.

I think it indirectly attracts non-beneficial traffic.

It doesn't need to be here. People join just to ask about the new t-pain song and then never contribute again.

Yeah, I never see regular members posting in that forum. I agree that

It doesn't even need it's own thread. 9/10 times if you google the lyric you know the song will show up.

yes. who cares if it's regulars or noobs who use it and if it's just for the newest club single. better to have it all in one spot.

my biggest complaint with that subforum is the broken link issue. so many of the threads are just 'what's the song in this video?'. no mention of style, when it was recorded, lyrical content, etc. personally i'm not interested in piecing together a broken link to check out some socio-political BS with some whiny frat boy acoustic drek. but i don't mind trying to help people out if they can offer a little more information about what they're looking for.

is there a way to make that forum somehow immune to the 15 post minimum prior to posting a link?

I think having a forum dedicated to it makes for a very obvious and noticeable place for people that just joined to post those questions. With just a thread I think they'll be more likely to post in the wrong places, meaning more work for the mods.

Also, do we really want yet another stickied thread clogging up the the top of the General Music forum?
