You don't need to speak for British people to understand that Americans have accents, all you have to do is observe that Americans have distinct pronunciation that is different from British people. But if you really need to hear it from a British source, here's a nice article from the BBC about learning to fake an American accent:

BBC NEWS | Magazine | How not to do an American accent

Sigh.

How long is it going to take me to help you realize that I'm not talking about "accent" in the dictionary definition sense of the word? Forget what I said about British people. It doesn't matter.
Re-read everything I said, minus the British parts, and instead of the word "accent" appearing in your eyes and brain, replace it with "the way people compare my speaking in relation to others in America".

Then repeat the following phrase:
"Veridical Fiction has no accent" until it makes sense. However long that might take.

I already understand your point.
You seemingly are incapable of understanding mine.
Truly, we can have a conversation and not worry about whether a word we choose is the absolute truth in the context we're using them.
It's like me saying the leaf of a tree is green and you saying "Actually, that's only true in 98 percent of trees".

only deciduous trees have "leaves," which occupy less than half of all tree populations. and i'm willing to bet less than 98% of those species have green leaves; chlorophyll isn't the only photoreceptor compound present in many trees.

There's really no need to be so condescending, I understand that you don't think you have a distinct regional American accent. I understood that after reading your second post. All I was saying is that even if that's true you do in fact have an accent, even if it's just a general American one.

At that point you brought in this thing about some British guy saying that Americans don't have accents which is obviously wrong whether you take it to mean we literally don't have accents or whether you take it to mean that we don't have distinct regional accents.

Sorry. Didn't mean to sound condescending.
I got no hint that you understood what I was saying when you kept pushing the "everyone has accents" fact.
My bad.

I dunno where I was going with the British thing. I just mentioned that a Brit told me Americans have no accent.
That could have been left alone.

:D

LOL, it wouldn't have been me arguing that information.

S'okay. It's always hard to read people's tone on message boards. Sorry for misreading condescension into your post. :)
