Bah. Calling someone an asshole, as if this part of the human anatomy were something bad, is so yesterday, Crash.

I think finger + nail are more of an ultimate duo of offensive language, if you think about the words carefully. See? Here it is in action:

Fingernail you, man! Fingernail you!!!

Perverse, isn't it? And it isn't even censored! :D

It's quite frightening really.

You're right that's it's asinine but unfortunately we're stuck with it for now. It's not something the moderators are able to change. And for the record you have to resort to fancy maneuvers to avoid Dick Dale being censored as well.

It is something the admins can change though. Ive used VBulletin before and it can be set up to whitelist words if they're used in certain ways, while still censoring the word on its own.

It is, it just hasn't been set up to do so. See above.

We know they CAN change it

They don't want to.

I'm sure, but theres no point saying it can't be changed when it CAN be changed. Why not just say it straight up? The admins can't be bothered setting up a whitelist for the term used as part of an extant word.

I just did, and did so in the thread about it months ago.
I've been a mod 3 years, any discussion about the swear filter and the answer is a swift no.

How we even got gay allowed is beyond me.

We are not all attuned to the technical aspects of vBulletin nor were we chosen to mod because of our technical prowess. In fact just last week the mod forum was full of little tidbits of information that many of us were unaware were even there. We also have very little contact with the administration team except for Yac so forgive us if we do not have every little technical detail of this forum software memorized.

GuitarBizarre 08-25-2010 12:09 PM

I'm not saying that. I'm just pointing out that it CAN be done.

TheCunningStunt 08-25-2010 12:11 PM

Cock shouldn't be banned, especially when you're talking about movies. (Because of Alfred, not because of the film's I watch.) But the swear filter is easily bypassed so it really shouldn't be a problem.
