Yeah, it's a forum. Not a democracy. The mods on here are really lenient, so if they ban someone it's for good reason.

I'm signed up to another forum and if Admin has had a bad day and someone pisses him off, he'll ban them. And he says it's my forum, it isn't a democracy. I can do what I want.

Plus I imagine a lot of the newer members that get banned, it'd get boring reading:

Length of time: Permanent.
Reasons: Spam, self promotion.

Who the **** would ever miss that guy? He was very silly, and confrontational. If Conan wasn't such a cool headed guy, he probably would have been banned for the idiocy in the JFK thread.

Unless someone is a threat to the entire community, I don't think the mods should give out too many information. This only gives room for speculation and disunity (is that a word? google says so...).

I myself still don't really get the point of temporary banning. Yeah, some people improve, but I'd rather try untill there's now ay back. I'm not the type to punish and threaten.
But I'm fine with it eitherway. No ban so far. I do see some of my postings being deleted. I would like to ask the mods to send me a PM should I really go too far. Because I'm not good at seeing that myself.

You wouldn't even have to read it, the only time you'd see it would be in their signature and they'd never come back so...

I don't think I've ever deleted one of your posts, but I know I've merged a few of them. Since there's no content lost from merging, I usually don't bother sending a notice when I do, but if you don't notice that the content from a post has been added to the one preceding it, it may look like a post has been deleted.

The reason I merge some of your posts is of course because you tend to double post now and then. I guess you haven't learned the fine art of multi-quoting? :D

Haha, hey, I spoke in favor of your return ;).

I say it'd get boring, but the reasons are probably quite irrelevant and uninteresting.

A lot of the new members either got banned for getting too mouthy or shamelessly self promoting.

Established members who get banned get a thread started about them, where people demand to know why and what happened.

So I think it's quite a pointless idea, but I'm really not bothered either way.

Well for people who sign up and spam there's not really anyone who cares about them. I was just bringing up the idea for established members. Even people with like 100 posts whos posts you've seen. Cause I might see someone banned who I've posted with in the forums and be like WTF did they do. And since their posts are deleted I'd have no idea. And then id feel like an ass making a thread and starting a whole thread about it. Plus I think it kinda holds mods accountable a little bit. Not that I think the modding is bad, but if someone is banned I feel like people should know for what reason. Banned members can't even view posts here and not everyone here exchanges AIMs or whatever so people are just left in the dark.

It's not like established members are banned often, but it happens from time to time.

It's not entirely uncommon for people like RandyMarsh to sign up, people who just don't pick up the general vibe here who are just a bit more rude, confrontational, sarcastic etc. than the average member. They sometimes get up to 100 posts or more before crossing the line and then they get an infraction or a deleted post with a notice telling them why. Then they either say sorry and learn their lesson or, more typically, do something more stupid like insulting the moderator on PM or more openly on the forum (in a post that only exists for a few seconds before it's deleted) which earns them a temp ban. After getting the temp ban, they either wisen up or go even more crazy like RandyMarsh did and turn their temp into a perm.

@ Dirty
Yea and what he's saying is that when it happens, it's generally discussed and well known about. So no worries bud.
