Maybe I'm just overly nostalgic. When Ian (RiseAgainstRocks) would berate everyone who had a music collection that differed at all from his. When Ethan (SleepyJack) would wear his broken heart on his sleeve. When Jibber would call us all sexist because we thought that all female snowboarder should just be snow bunnies. When Marijan (Adidasss) and Brennan (Big3) were feuding as the Big Bostonian vs. The Croatster, debating religion and the consequences of mankinds consequences for dozens of pages at a time with no flaming or insults. When Mikey (TDOC) lost like 80 pounds and all the girls started flocking to him. When Richard (Urban) became overly infatuated with Delicate. When Raine would posts pictures of different Asian females, claiming they were all her, just with a different haircut. Aw hell.

/nostalgia :\

...when Conan banned oojay for making him feel left out.

[MERIT] 05-24-2011 03:13 PM

I'm just yearning for the good ol' days when MB was fun. When it was a place to get away from the real world. No divorce or child custody lawsuits to worry about. No overdue bills, just homework and buying the new CD from your favorite band were all you had to worry about. I'm just a bit off right now, so treat all this with disregard guys. I'm just thinking out loud.

I played the game when i first joined and became a mod in like 4 months. Just make a bunch of informative neutral posts in all sections of the forum.

Messing with someones account is beyond the pale for me. I had questions about your judgement since the infraction.

I've PM'd Yac. Have your fun.

I am a member of a forum that operates this way - when you first join you don't know who the mods are. Usernames are all the same colour and there are no global or section moderators listed anywhere on the site. However, there is absolutely no advantage to this because as you post more, you tend to figure out who the mods are - whether it slipped out in a post, they said it themselves, or process of elimination with regular members. Then it just becomes like every other forum on the Internet.

Sparky 05-24-2011 04:38 PM

Well that was funny for 5 minutes...

Queen Boo 05-24-2011 04:39 PM

Big3, you do the silliest things for attention.

right-track 05-24-2011 04:51 PM

Big3 seems to have become the victim of his own thread title.
The irony.

someonecompletelyrandom 05-24-2011 04:54 PM

I think it's worth pointing out that I only changed it because I was asked to and assumed it was some kind of long-running inside joke. Also, I haven't commented on the OP yet - very nice job with that big3. Very well written and I hope it gives a little perspective.

right-track 05-24-2011 04:58 PM

Relax Conan. He'll calm down.
I still haven't forgiven him over that time he had a Liverpool FC avatar.
If he gives you any trouble I'll have him shot.

Sparky 05-24-2011 05:08 PM

At least some things are still the same :)

From my understanding 99% of the members are fine with the mods, correct me if I'm wrong.

That's funny. I have no friends, and wasn't even posting on MB at the time I was asked to join the staff, soooooooo...

That makes even less sense. Why mod someone who isn't even posting?

Soooooooo... Nothing.

Dirty 05-24-2011 08:52 PM

Not that anyone is actively discussing it but all i was saying with my video comments and a few normal comments over time is how stupid i think it is that the banning isn't more in the open. I don't see why non-mods shouldn't see actually why someone was banned. The details are so vague, I'd like to know what post they actually made or a jist of what they said. 'Inappropriate comments' could include so many things, it'd take any questioning out of the equation to be a little more specific and say somethng like 'Dirty insulted conan for having a small cock' or whatever the case was. Again, I know it sounds like I'm making it a big deal but im not trying to, just speaking my thoughts.

also on the original post, i doubt anyone will really listen to the first part about how to effectively approach a mod or whatever, but nonetheless is was a good post and i liked the insight to the mod cave. I don't think you really have to play the game or whatever to become a mod, but it'd be easy to do for anyone, but im not sure why anyone would want to do that in the first place.

Okay, from your post it sounded like you were no longer an active poster at the time, not just on sabbatical. I guess you must be the blaring exception to the rule. The forum had to search you down during your off time and beg you to come police the rest of us peasants. How grateful we are for your presence. [/SARCASM]

I have no problem with any of the mods. Hell, I've never even talked to half of you. Why we need a dozen mods, half of whom are basically n00bs is beyond me, but who am I to judge, right?

Just a question, how long were you a member before you became a moderator?

Who's a n00b? Show us you have balls and name names :p:

Sparky 05-24-2011 08:59 PM

Which mods are female and which are male?

Just wondering, especially duga

someonecompletelyrandom 05-24-2011 09:00 PM

duga is a male.
I'm a male.
Janszoon is a male.
Freebase is a male.
SATCHMO is a male.
Mojopinuk is a male.
Burning Down is female.
Pedestrian is female.
Vanilla is female.
Nonsubmissive Wife is female.

I hope I'm not forgetting anybody...

I agree. I think that we need a sticky that shows which members are banned, why, and for how long. Maybe even have a "History" section on a member's profile showing their banning, previous usernames, and other pertinent information.

This would be pretty cool,

I'd be down to write some psychological profiles for each member.

I'm not trying to be condescending, but I'm kind of being forced to I feel like. In a forum with tens of thousands of user, I don't see the necessity to mod someone who has only been here a few months.

I try to be as transparent with things as possible, as do the rest of the mods I think. Anytime I've been asked about a ban, including a few times by you, I've been more than happy to answer the questions. But one thing you need to understand is that sometimes it's in nobody's best interest to air every little bit of dirty laundry in public.

That's crazy.

For the record, I completely disagree with making information regarding punitive action public.

Dirty, you stated in your video (an entertaining watch, by the way :D ) that you feel sometimes the MB mods are too harsh on new members. To quote you "not everybody has been on a forum for 10 fuckin years." People will make mistakes and they will act stupidly and they WILL be banned or infracted for it. Many times this is due to their inexperience with how to behave on a forum, sometimes it's just because they're a prick, but either way - we want to help reform people so that they can become valued members, not humiliate them just so you lot can satisfy your curiosity. Even if they've broken the rules, they have the right to privacy - whether you like it or not.

Get over it.

It doesn't matter how long you've been here or what your post count is. If you're better suited for the job than an older member, you get the job.

That's it.
