I was feeding into the bolded section of what you were asking by making a joke that there is a bigger picture when there isn't one.

Paedantic Basterd 05-25-2011 05:53 PM

Yeah, I don't believe that. I would like to know what you honestly think we are up to behind the scenes, because I guarantee you it's a lot less interesting than you think.

ROFL. No it's not a requirement, it just means that I can kick ass on the spam bots without being worried about their feelings!!

that's fine you can go ahead and not believe that.

that's not going to pressure me into making up some story to satisfy your belief

And I believe you can evidently see that. I was a bitch before and I'm a bitch now. I'm not going to stop being myself because I'm mod, and I believe that fire in me is why I was hired for the job in the first place.

nor me, she seems to be like just not getting enough

look, if I ever assemble a mod team here, porn will be tolerated

FETCHER. 06-20-2011 07:16 AM

why does everyone refer to being a mod as job? You don't get paid for it and it's not hard-work.

I've noticed alot of the "new" mods have changed since their modding and became all strict and shit. Especially since some used to have an awesome way with words and "idagf" attitude. Now that that's gone the mod team is slightly robotic. Which is why I prefered the old team because mods like Urban, RT, Big3, Dreadnaught, etc, Didn't give a fuck and would tell you straight to your face.

It's still tedious and takes up time that's why it's considered a job.

I guess it should be referred to as work and not a job to be technical.

When you go out and do volunteer work just because you don't get paid doesn't mean it's not work.

The work part of being a mod refers to all the spam clean up that they do to keep the forums looking somewhat decent.

Sorry, next time I have to save the little old lady from drowning, I'll stop and remember I've got it so easy compared to those musicbanter mods.

time spent saving an old lady and time spent doing tedious work on musicbanter is still time spent.

Those rose colored shades that you are wearing of the glory days need to be taken off.

It was like the OK Corral back in the days and I guess some people like that but it was pure madness and either you took the abuse/insults or you gtfo.
:bringit::bringit:

FETCHER. 06-20-2011 07:37 AM

omg, did you actually say that, ofcourse its still time spent. But I know I'd rather be sitting in the own comfort of my house sorting out spam than trying to save someones life. Be realistic for ****sake.

I've also only been here for like a year and a half so I can hardly have "rose tinted glasses" of the glory day. I'm still a noob. I've no ****ing idea what the glory days were like. I'm saying I prefered more open mouthed mods thans robotic ones. From reading this thread I'm not the only one with this preference.

Farfisa 06-20-2011 07:38 AM

I remember the good old days, when I didn't have to insult people as the mods did that for me. Urban, right-track, big3, ethan, and Cardboard Adolescent, I miss you guys.

Paedantic Basterd 06-20-2011 10:58 AM

Do you actually volunteer rescuing little old ladies from wells? Because your point doesn't really stand if you don't.

Anyways, I haven't changed at all. I was an enigmatic bitch three months ago too, I just wasn't on anyone's radar for them to notice it. ;)

You joined in 2006.

If you think that was bad then you should have been here in 2004/05 where the mods basically did fuck all.
If It wasn't for R-T , Big3 & Satchmo installing some kind of consistency when they were modded this place would be very very different.

Sorry I forgot that you's hadn't just been referring to modding as a so called "job". I related it to my own job. Which I know for a fact is a lot ****ing harder than modding.

edit: Modding is more of a hobby than a job tbf.

Yeah, I'm sure it is. So is my real job. So is anybody's here, I imagine.

But seriously, what is it you do for a living then? Do you rescue old ladies or not? These are burning questions.

Everybody misses the old mods but wants >>us<< to moderate in a completely different style and will throw a hissyfit if we don't. That's why I sincerely don't give a damn what regular users think about how the site should moderated anymore.

You ever had to deal with BooBoo crying over his latest ban over IM?

Shit like that is harder and 10 times more tedious than anything I have ever been paid to do.

Paedantic Basterd 06-20-2011 11:51 AM

Honestly, the hardest part of the job I have found is the user aspect of it. Which you are really making a point about right now. Tbf.

FETCHER. 06-20-2011 11:52 AM

Conan, not at one point did I say I didn't like the current mod team. I said I preferred the old team that was here when I joined. If I did say flat out I don't like the current mod team then I take it back and stand corrected.

Touche Urban, but now that BooBoo's gone...

Oh, okay. I won't dispute that. I never was. I will point out however, that you'd have a greater right to complain if we got paid to do this. Which we don't.

I wasn't trying to be funny, a little bitter maybe, but not funny. The user aspect actually is the most complicated and draining part of the task.

I'm not complaining though, I'm trying to point out that under no circumstances I would call modding a job, it's a voluntary hobby. & I never said I didn't like this mod team which everyone seems to think. I said I preferred the old team.

Hobbies are things you do for your personal enjoyment.

I can't speak for everyone though. Hey, Conan, are you having fun constantly offending people, being questioned persistently, and never making anybody happy?

Maybe I'm wrong!

FETCHER. 06-20-2011 12:06 PM

Just sayin'

I could, but it keeps me involved in the site, and I want to be involved in the site. Similarly, users can quit if they don't like the way it is being tended for. Telling someone to quit is the easy retort. I'd like to hear a solution to the divide that requires some thought.

I see that, but the existence of one point in your post doesn't negate the existence of the counterpoint. Personally, I feel mine is the stronger.

Or we can all start referring to moderation as a "chore", if you like. I think you'll find the definition more satisfactory than either "job" or "hobby".

If you speak like that to your friends, I'm flabbergasted. Personally, I feel mines is the stronger. But then that's down to personal opinion.

I think I better go sit on the naughty step since obviously your opinion is clearly superior to peasant member opinions.

I said no such thing. I disagree with you, and I think that in the big picture, it's a nitpicky thing to bring up as if it's creating some kind of lingering problem on the site.
