Trollheart is a god amongst men. This forum has always taken him for granted.

What does this have to do with the last four posts? You're like a old man sputtering out random platitudes.

Some people come back, but don't come back properly, so I'm missing Chula and Trollheart.

If you poke around in old threads, you come across old names of course: one such is CanwllCorfe. If I remember right, he was a guy from Wales with a dark avatar and strange musical tastes.
Also gone are a whole slew of members who I think of as being encyclopediasts: they posted ambitious threads trying to turn MB into a music reference website. I was recently looking at this thread, for example: https://www.musicbanter.com/rock-met...on-thread.html : Rock/Metal/Prog Education Thread

I guess we just don't do that kind of stuff any longer, am I right ?

If I am not mistakes his username was Welsh but he was from Pennsylvania. There are a few name places that PA and the UK have in common, so I am not definitely sure.

^ Thanks for responding, Neapolitan. You made me curious enough to look at his user page, so I imagine you're right: no Pocono Mountains in Wales afaik.

tl;dr comes to mind

A lot of times ambitious writing like the example you posted gets glossed over because people don't feel invested enough in the source to put the effort in to read it all. You can get facts on any artist from quite a few already established sources that aren't just some random stranger's echoing of those facts on a forum.

That's my understanding of it anyway.

I keep up with CanwllCorfe on FB, he's busy with academic and personal pursuits. I wish he'd post around here again but I don't think he'd like the current MB.

Lisnaholic 01-10-2020 04:51 AM

^ Thanks, WWWP, that's interesting to know - though according to his biographical details, I would've expected him to be sleeping at the beach with his friends to the sound of ambient trance music. Either that, or meditating on his own mysterious signature.

^ Yes, those are very good points indeed. Even since MB's early days attitudes to accumulating information have changed so much. Now that there is limitless stuff just a click away, I don't suppose many people use those genre guides etc, any more: besides, what poor fool is naive enough to come to MB expecting to learn anything? ;)
