At first I told Ant that this wouldn’t make my top ten but would make my top twenty-five if I were making one. Now I wonder if this shouldn’t be number one. It’s got to be the future as it should be and really will be and is now as we soldier on unaware of Derrida‘s metaphysics of presence. And yes that’s really what’s on the table here.

That it’s a musical avatar for both the present and the future because it captures the essence of the idea of the eternal present. I could’ve just said that I’m certain this record will continue to be profoundly influential for a very long time and it gives me the feeling I’m being removed from time and space as I typically think I understand it but after writing so many reviews on Freak Fighter I was looking for new ways to express things. I’m pretty sure I was reading Heidegger at the time and thought oh this fits but because of his association with Nazism and who Sophie is I decided it would be more tasteful to reference Derrida instead.
