Bowie Week In Journal Land
The whole time I've been a member here I've never organised a specific themed week or month.... Until now.
Yesterday saw the release of Bowie's newest triple greatest hits album. To celebrate this I would like to propose that next week anyone with a journal write something on a chosen Bowie album. It can be anything you want. It doesn't have to be a review although you can do that if you wish, you can write something about hearing it for the first time, you can choose an album of his you might not have heard and write something about that, you might want to choose an album you think is underrated or overrated and write something about that. I won't be including his first album (technically it's a compilation) or including other compilations, bootlegs, live albums, soundtrack albums or unreleased albums on the official list but if you want to continue with the theme yourself it's fine. Simply name the album you want to cover and you will be added to the list. It will be done on a first come first served basis. We did attempt to do something like this before but it fell apart. I nominated to review 'Lodger' so that'll be my nomination. Only one nomination per person until things slow down, then after that if you want to do another you can if there are still some up. 1969 - David Bowie / Space Oddity 1970 - The Man Who Sold the World 1971 - Hunky Dory (Briks) 1972 - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars (Pet_Sounds) 1973 - Aladdin Sane (Chula Vista) 1973 - Pin Ups 1974 - Diamond Dogs (Goofle) 1975 - Young Americans (ladyislingering) 1976 - Station to Station (Neapolitan) 1977 - Low 1977 - Heroes (WhateverDude) 1979 - Lodger (Urban Hat€monger) 1980 - Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) (Trollheart) 1983 - Let's Dance (Plankton) 1984 - Tonight 1987 - Never Let Me Down 1993 - Black Tie White Noise 1995 - 1.Outside (Josef K) 1997 - Earthling 1999 - Hours... 2002 - Heathen 2003 - Reality (Black Francis) 2013 - The Next Day (James) |
Count me in. I've never heard an entire Bowie album, so this is a good opportunity. Might as well go with Ziggy Stardust, it's the one I've heard the most about.

Sure, I'm in. I'll take Hunky Dory.
|
Does he have any albums that the snobs hate, but still listen to when nobody else is around?
|
I'll do "Young Americans"!
Very cool idea. |
I'll take the SRV laden "Let's Dance".
|
I'll do Aladdin Sane.
|
I'll do something about his recent work, The Next Day and his new single.

Just listened to Ziggy Stardust, and I'm hooked. Thanks Urban! :D
|
I'll take Station to Station
edit: If anyone is doing greatest hits, I would like to do Changesonebowie. |
Dammit! So busy writing about Floyd and Springsteen I missed this. Wanted "Station to station" but the Neapster has beaten me to it, so I'll have some scary monsters please.
|
|
I'll do The Prestige.

I'll take Reality if no one wants it..

What? it's not a bad album..
|
Just read your post in a literal sense, without thinking about albums.
|
Yeah, who needs reality? Fantasy is much better! :)
|
I'll take Outside, I guess. If nobody takes it I'll try to do The Man Who Sold the World also.
|
Oh god, I'm out sorry. I know I am not going to like this when I sampled it, and this will definitely bore me. Sorry again. Somebody else can take Low.

The only way you grow musically is to listen to stuff that's not normally your bag. Not saying you have to force yourself to listen to it, but it's a bit of a cop-out to just decide to give up. I can't see anything so bad about the album that it would put you off music. What's specifically so terrible to you about it? |
Urb, can you update the list? I'm not there yet and it looks like "Scary monsters" is still up for grabs. And it ain't. You wanna fight about it? ;)

Sorry if I came over all preachy: it's the Metal Month II Trollheart. He just won't **** off and let me go back to the way I was. He won't let me live... :banghead: |
Dr. Heart and Mr. Troll…
|
I get your reasoning Justine, if you're not up to it don't do it this is a voluntary event but i think Trollheart made some good points about how stepping out your comfort zone could benefit your musical growth.
For the longest time i was stuck in a 90's music bubble and knew little outside of it but now im trying to be open minded about other types of music. except dubstep, i will never get into dubstep. |
Dibs on Scary Monsters

I've been meaning to start a journal for a while and wouldn't mind kicking it off with a little snippet about Heroes. I'm in.

Also, Urban: are we getting some sort of banner or is there some heading we should be using? Or do we just refer to it being Bowie week?
|
You going to remove my name of the list? Somebody might want Low.
