If You Want To Know Why The Spill Your Guts Thread Was Closed Read On
 

I have closed it permanently this time and I make no apologies for it.

Now you can bitch and whine about it or make jokes at my expense about how I always close everything I really don't care. But there are one or two things you need to know.

We are just one of many forums owned by the same company. These other forums are much more strictly moderated than we are. We've been left alone to our own devices for the simple reason we've moderated ourselves without them having to step in and tell us what to do.

The way the Lounge has been going the past year is going to jeopardise that trust if things get any worse and people cannot moderate themselves sufficiently. Does every thread really have to be filled with childish insults and 20 pages of off topic garbage? You have the shoutbox, you have chatrooms use those. Even the Lounge used to have some standards at one time.

This is the first warning we have had from the owners to get ourselves in order. Just go and look at the last few pages of the Spill Your Guts thread and read the rubbish in it. And if any of the people who posted in that thread are proud of it you should leave because you're not wanted here. You really have reached a new forum low.

Do something about it yourself before making someone else do it for you.

This is the best thing anybody has ever done on this forum as of late.

I completely agree. I didn't post but watched with growing annoyance and disbelief the kind of stupid, schoolyard crap being posted and to be honest, I just expected you to walk in and close it again. But it being permanently closed is a good idea, as it had ceased long ago to serve the function for which it was created.

We're not stupid kids here. I've certainly been guilty of a childish outburst or two myself, I will put my hand up to that and try to be a bit more mature in future. Which is not to say, I believe I am right in saying, that we all have to be po-faced and nicey-nicey with each other. The site is called Music Banter after all. But some of the topics created recently and some of the comments posted have been beneath contempt.

Let's look on this as the shape of things to come if we don't get ourselves in order. We don't have a god-given right to this forum and it could be closed like that. Let's all try to learn from this.

I admit it, yeah, i was involved. I answered questions and tried to stop things from escalating. Did I say I wasn't part of the problem? No.
Am I happy the problem is resolved? Of course. That thread was a ****fest ever since the Freebase/Vanilla debate went out of control.

Please feel free to continue to make accusations toward me with no evidence, I love it.

What exactly was the issue? Dumb posts or antagonistic ones? Cause the whole concept of the thread was pretty much about being confrontational. I don't imagine the owners would be that concerned with just off-topic stupidity.

Or teenage bull**** banter.Im all for lounge topics,games and jokes but use your head a little quality control.

I suspect Bats it is things like is it ok to screw animals.Debates on the word ***---.And page after page of pointless YouTube videos.

There seems to be this thought that because something is posted in the lounge it can be made fun of, not taken seriously, filled with stupid gifs, childish insults or be derailed almost by default.
That isn't the case, like I said there still has to be some standards even in the lounge.

It's got to the point where the line has been crossed as to what's acceptable, for any of it. I'm not asking people to stop completely I'm just asking them to filter themselves and try to at least hold themselves to some kind of standard and not fill every thread in there with the same childish crap day in day out.

Somehow you've taken the forums closeness and turned it into a bad thing. Outside of a few particular instances everyone active in the lounge can be viewed as a giant click with characters that are expected to play certain roles. This is human nature, get over it. Unless we are attacking new members or people are leaving because of it I don't see a problem. This is a music site, if you come here and don't like the lounge section who gives a fuck? The threads in the music section are solid and the journals are way better than than the majority of other sites I looked into before joining here.

On another note, if your getting shit from the higher ups, I get it, do what you have to do as mods.
