One final proposal: towards a new dawn at Music Banter

This is a fairly radical idea, perhaps a little ahead of its time, and some people may find it hard to get their heads around it, so bear with me, but this is what I propose:

1. Everybody (and I mean everybody, including me) puts on their big girl knickers or big boy pants (depending on gender or preference) and start to take responsibility for their actions. Realise that there are real people behind the usernames and treat your posts here as if you're talking to the people face to face. Be courteous and polite and do not deliberately antagonise anyone (unless it's fun) ;) or encourage others to, or jump in when someone is being attacked.

2. Everybody (and again I include me in this) ****ing lighten up and learn to take a little ribbing. It's not the end of the world if someone slags you off; this is the online version of real life, and whereas you might not be happy if your mate or brother or husband or girlfriend started slagging you, you wouldn't run to the police to complain would you? So no need to be reporting people unless there's an actual serious issue. Take part in the fun; we're all friends here and if someone says something you don't agree with or that you feel insults or degrades you or in other ways annoys you, talk to them and try to sort it out before you fly off the handle. (Trollheart, take note)...

3. Everyone realise that we're not here because we have to be. We don't work here. Nobody pays us, and the world won't end if we don't turn up. But we LIKE being here, we enjoy it and often look forward to it. So to that end, everyone make a conscious effort to try to make the environment mutually friendly and drama-free.

If we follow these simple steps, we can police ourselves (we're adults, are we not?) rather than instigate a police state or semi-police state here, which is likey to be detrimental to the majority. As Grampa Simpson once said, there's nothing here that can't be fixed with a bit of determination, common sense and gumption, so let's all roll up our sleeves and ....
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pu...a_sleeping.jpg

Wha -- who? Sorry, where was I? Oh yeah: three important phrases which will get you through most drama:
Sorry
No offence meant
None taken

Simple, huh? No poll required, no big amount of work needed, no redesigning the wheel. Just everyone try to make this a better place and work with one another. If you do wrong, accept it, take your warning or infraction or even ban without whining about it. You know you did wrong, and if you don't think you did, then speak to a mod about it privately, don't make it a steward's enquiry and involve the whole community.

****, maybe if we do this we might even get that Utopia that tore longs for...

Can i suggest that all Simpson pics etc are banned from this site, if i see a Simpsons reference I don't read the post. A friend of mine recruits staff for a largish company, during the interview if they make any kind of reference to the Simpsons or South Park or any of those dumb cartoons they don't get the job, doesn't matter how qualified they are they don't get the job. His opinion is, if they need to use a fecking cartoon to make their point they're no use to me, he went on to say that if he could he'd slaughter the bastards and throw their remains into the sea.

Simpsons etc fans are very similar to Sci-Fi fans, the average Sci-Fi fan uses the authors imagination and somewhere throughout the process of reading and understanding the book they assume they have a great imagination too, i think its called being deluded. Simpsons fans are similar with the sense of humour.

Jesus ****ing Christ. We don't need anymore of these goddamn threads.

grindy 06-12-2015 08:13 AM

4. Learn to quickly recognize members who will surely just frustrate/infuriate you and simply ignore them. Not just trolls, but also people who tend to be obnoxious or have absolutely incompatible views and opinions. It's important to debate and converse with people who are different, this lets us learn new things or better understand things we already know. And sometimes debating is just fun. But if you already know that it will change nothing whatsoever and just annoy one or both of you, then just move on.

Don't take this seriously. I'm just poking fun at you. Though another thread on a supposed proposal seems rather inane.

That's the whole point really. We don't need poll after poll, thread after thread, two more ****ing weeks to decide this thing. It's not rocket science, as pointed out in my OP. It's a dig, y'know? Simples, as they say.

Key 06-12-2015 09:59 AM

^i suppose. I think there needs to be a poll regarding whether or not this thread needs a poll.

That's a good point. Or is it? Maybe we need a poll to see if it's a good point whether we need a poll or not?

Wanted to respond to this when I had more time. I would ask you not to assume I don't have a sense of humour just because I watch the Simpsons. You may not like them, I do, and yes a lot of my humour references them, but if you read my posts here you'll see I certainly do have a sense of humour outside of the Simpsons. Also, if you bothered to actually read the post (which you said you don't, once you see a Simpsons reference) then you would have seen I was only using that reference as a self-deprecating dig at my own somewhat advanced age.

Anyway, I find your post a little perhaps not offensive but certainly irritating and close-minded, so please do me a favour and cut it out.

Many thanks.
Now get back to wherever it is you work, whoever you are! :D

Well done TH, well done. A wonderful example of how to control yourself when someone has just pissed you right off.

Tell me in no more than twenty five words why The Simpsons is so great.

Machine 06-12-2015 12:31 PM

Now we wait for tore to make a new proposal that we can ignoret in responce to every member agreeing with TH :)

Not really; if you have decided you don't like it then nothing I'm going to say --- in twenty-five, or twenty-five thousand words --- is going to convince you. But a massive percentage of the population of the world enjoy them, and I count myself among that percentage. It's ok for you not to, but it's not ok for you to try to put people down for expressing their love of and admiration for the series. So if you can just bear that in mind for the future, I think we'll be fine.

Of course, you could just be yanking my chain here, but sure I'll give ye the benefit of the doubt and assume you're being sincere.

DwnWthVwls 06-12-2015 03:33 PM

There's an entire sub-forum meant for discussing how the forum is run and your pissy because people are actually using it. That's all I get from just about every post you've made since your initial critique of Tore's proposal. Passive-aggressive whining is far more annoying than serious discussion about a topic you dislike.

This seems like a good thread to try out that report feature for the first time.

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. All I've done is say we don't need a big discussion, poll and system to work out what, if anything, is wrong here and it's easily fixed if it needs fixing. I'm certainly not the only one who feels this way. If you feel like reporting me, be my guest: I've broken no rule that I can see and received no warnings. I'm as entitled to make a thread and air how I feel as tore is to make his multiple polls. It's a free forum, last time I checked anyway.

DwnWthVwls 06-12-2015 05:51 PM

Yeh except you've made like multiple threads with new words and the same message, and no one else has. Your heart is made of spam.

Honestly? You don't think a thread that suggests taking our future into our own hands rather than let others decide it is important? I happen to disagree. This was made, yes, as a knee-jerk reaction against the bloated poll thread, but it's still got valid points to make. If we all take a look at how we're behaving here and try to look at things from both sides, then it could be a better place.

Reminds me of that Douglas Adams quote: "One day nearly two thousand years after one man was nailed to a tree for saying how great it would be to be nice to one another for a change..."

And no, I am not comparing myself to Jesus. I wouldn't do that to him.
;)

Key 06-12-2015 07:47 PM

At this point, there's been so much discussion about it that it seems better to just leave things alone. Especially since i really dont know what people are trying to achieve anymore. That's just my thoughts anyway.

To be fair, if I'm interviewing someone to defend white collar criminals or deliver pizzas or whatever, and the dude starts talking about The Simpsons, his application's going right in the trash. Who mentions The Simpsons in the middle of a job interview?

Well, you gave the impression you agreed with him, which is why Exo said this. I tend to agree with him. If you had said "My boss is such a douche! He refuses to employ anyone if they're into the Simpsons", then yes, you would be blameless, but here you're validating his belief so you get called out too.

Yeah. You obviously haven't read Exo's journal, or his film blog.

How is he missing the point? You chided me for using a Simpsons reference without, as I pointed out, bothering to check how it applied, accused me (along with every other Simpsons fan) of having no sense of humour and basically were just very dismissive and condescending.

I think we both got your point very well.

Also, if you're going to get pedantic, learn to use punctuation. A question ends with a question mark, not a full stop. "Its" is possessive, so it should be "it's possible", there should be a semi-colon after "point", not a comma and ideally a comma after "skills".

See? We can be snarky too. You get treated as you treat others.

I'll stand corrected on the misread of thinking you were talking about your boss. Although really, the point wasn't that he was your boss. That detail, while I was wrong, is very small compared to the fact that you both were/are acting like complete pricks. All this response does is show that. Do you like being that kind of person? Like, I'll be willing to be that deep down inside yourself, there is some deep seeded anger towards either somebody close to you, or even yourself. Why else would you act like a complete douchebag? Maybe you're just 16 and think you know everything about the world. Maybe you're just an asshole.

Have fun being that person. I'm sure you'll make tons of friends belittling people for liking something or pointing out how they must not know how to read and must be "stupid" because they misread a small bit of information in an otherwise diatribe of douche. The fact that you're saying all this to TH makes the point that much clear to literally every single member of this message board. TH is one of the nicest and kindest people on this board and you're acting like a total twat.

But yeah, I thought it was your boss so I guess you win.
