This might be the wrong thread to post this, but I was leafing through the replies and noticed somebody mentioned 'Talk Talk'.

Their album 'Spirit of Eden' is outstanding. To quote allmusic

"...exchanging electronics for live, organic sounds and rejecting structure in favor of mood and atmosphere, the album is an unprecedented breakthrough, a musical and emotional catharsis of immense power. Mark Hollis' songs exist far outside of the pop idiom, drawing instead on ambient textures, jazz-like arrangements, and avant-garde accents..."

I also noticed Mark Hollis' name mentioned previously, so this may be old news, but I thought it important to bring this album to light for people who dig the emotional and ethereal qualities of music.

Some of the post-rock bands I dig are: God Is An Astronaut, Explosions in the Sky, Maybeshewill, GY!BE, Yndi Haldi, Ef, Pelican, This Will Destroy You, iLIKETRAiNS, And So I Watch You From Afar, Caspian, Beware of Safety, Do Make Say Think, From Monument to Masses, 65daysofstatic, If These Trees Could Talk etc. etc.

"Losing you to you" by Hammock has got to be my favorite song of theirs.

That's definitely a great tune. Which records of theirs have you heard?

Just d/led Raising Your Voice...Trying To Stop an Echo. Have very high hopes after reading through this thread, I'll let you know what I think.

There's some tracks I really connect with, and some I don't as much. It's a bit of a long record, and I could see why it could be hard to listen to the whole thing at once if it's not your thing. With that said, tracks like I Can Almost See You really get me every time.

Make sure you check out "Maybe They Will Sing For Us Tomorrow." It is their most recent work, and songs like Gold Star Mothers and City In The Dust On My Window really speak to me. I'll see if I can find you a link to Gold Star Mothers, it's a real stand out to me.

I don't have whole albums of theirs, just specific tunes I liked from each of their albums. I've listened to all of the albums, courtesy of a friend who introduced me to them.

I'm loving post-rock right now. Spiderland by Slint is one of my favourite albums. As for some other bands: Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, The Sea and Cake, Gastr del Sol, Faraquet and Do Make Say Think.

I think another good thing to get into if you like post-rock is math rock. It's similar, but a bit more rock-y (?). Some good groups for that would be Don Caballero, Shellac, Hella, Drive Like Jehu and Rodan.

On another note, I seem to be the only person here who thinks Talk Talk's Laughing Stock is overrated (Spirit of Eden is great though) and doesn't like Tortoise...

When I brought home the Tortoise s/t LP my girlfriend at the time said she didn't like it. Why? Because it sounds like the Grateful Dead. Ouch. I have to admit I can see her point, though.

I still think it's an excellent album but I can see why people find the band boring or whatever..
