To be fair Sigur Ros and Gus Gus experiment quite a bit with their sound. While a lot of their stuff would be closer to rock and post-rock, they shift so much that it's probably safer to keep around here.

I would say that Sigur Ros have kept a pretty consistent sound. So post-rock and ambient would be a good definition for them. They created their own sound within the post-rock genre which I think deserves praise.

I'd say that Takk is the only album that sticks out the most that would allow them to be considered an experimental band.

I haven't really got to listen to them, though I've thought about it for a while. I read a comment on Youtube of someone saying that Sigur Ros sounds like Radiohead in reverse. If that's true, then I'm sure I'll like it.
Do any of you have any suggestions on which of their albums/songs to start listening to first?

I don't think Sigur Ros sounds anything like Radiohead in my opinion. But as for albums, I say start with Takk...

It's the easier album to get fully through and a great starter album.

I'm still not sure how I feel about the new song. I like the idea of the band trying something new and going for a more aggressive sound but it doesn't seem to glue together well in my opinion. For example Jonsi's soft vocals seem to contrast with the distorted bass too much. However I still have high hopes for the album and I'm looking forward to hearing it.

I'm pretty much open minded when I hear a new Sigur Ros song, but this one is a bit difficult to wrap my mind around. It's not bad, but it's definitely not what I expect. I'm really stoked to hear that they're releasing a new album though, that's always a plus, especially with this band.
