To use an analogy, imaging if you had never seen a great movie, The Shawshank Redemption, say. What if, before you saw it for the first time, somebody went on about it for an hour, telling you that it was the best martial-arts action movie they had ever seen, great choregraphy, awesome fight scene, amazing special effects. I think there would be a big chance that you would miss the drama waiting for the action to happen.

Likewise I think that, through being given the wrong impression by music critics etc. Sigur Ros have been one of those bands that I don't like because I'm listening to it from the wrong angle.

Generally I can explain why I like or dislike music, its pretty important for me to be able to do this!
yeah, i understand, it's happened to me a few times, but after you get through the initial dissapointment, you listen to it more and judge it for what it really is.....

i think critics might have 'mislead' you because it's really dificult to describe their sound,
i think especially when you're not from a scandinavian country, where this sort of sound is more familiar i guess
i won't even try to describe what i like about them, because i knów i won't find the right words! it's just that feeling you get ... i simply lóve sigur rós...

Sigur Ros is awesome! I wouldn't expect many people to appreciate the subtle beauty of their music (especially in this day and age) but to me, it doesn't get much better than Aegtis Byrjun. Svefn G Englar sounds like it was created by angels

Default Heard of Sigur Ros?

Sigur Ros is a band from Iceland, though they're not strictly classical, they use a lot of strings and piano. The singer has a lovely, near angelic voice. I recently introduced my grandparents (classical lovers) to one of their CD's and they love it. My point of this thread is that they told me they haven't purchased a new CD in decades and I've found something they are interested in.

Yeah, I've heard of them. A couple of my friends like them. I would describe them as progressive rather than classical though.
