cool instruments

so i am in an experimental psychedelic band and we play a lot of wierd stuff. i try to come up with new things to do with my guitar to drive out strange sounds from my guitar. (kind of tom morello style without sounding too much like him)

although my fellow band members aren't as talented as me on guitar (so they tell me) i still would like to incorporate other instruments into my playing, since we have 2 other guitarists and i would like to avoid jumbling. my latest idea is for a sort of "trash-set." it would be a percussion instrument made out of things that give neat sounds. pvc pipes and copper tubing and 20 gallon drums and stuff, much like blue man group and STOMP. Does anybody think this is a bad idea?

what kinds of instruments would be really cool to add to an experimental psychedelic group?

Listen to einsturzende neubauten and the album 'Kollaps' for ideas. They used all sorts of things such as electric drills and steel pipes and still sounded amazing. It's quite discordant though :D

either a xylophone or vibraphone. and you can never have enough delay pedals.

The Ben Franklin designed glass harmonica is a pretty cool instrument. No idea how you'd get a hold of one, but it's pretty cool.

I second xylophone.
You could also try using objects as instruments :). But I'm no expert at this. I usually lose track of the objects used. The last one i heard was a typewriter.

I'd love to be able to play the earth harp, the sound it produces is lovely.

The guy at the top.

I've always been partial to the didgeridoo.

Aw, man. You beat me to it. I just saw a special on the history channel about Ben Franklin, and was introduced this instrument for the first time. Pretty amazing.

I really want a Balalaika... wonder what would happen if you paired it with a ukulele.
