Default Hella

A 2-man duo composed of one of the most insane drummers, Zach Hill and one of the most insane guitarist, Spencer Siem and until just recently, adding vocals, bass, and a second guitar to the band. Their music is complex, noisy, melodic, experimental, and a bunch of other things at the same time.

A few examples of their songs, starting with their earlier stuff:
Biblical Violence.
Suistyle
Try Did.
The Things People Do When They Think No One Is Looking.

The last video is from their latest album. Their sound changed alot, it lost alot of the experimentation that I like about them, although its still a great album.

Also, some of the member's solo projects:
Zach Hill:
Hindsight Is Nowhere
Iambix Strays.
Unseen Forces.
Spencer Siem:
Track 2.
Track 4.

Hella are so addictive in the strangest way. I could listen to Biblical Violence all day.

Yes, their live performances are so great. Not only can they play each song well, some even faster then they are on the records, but there are quite a few great live recordings of them. I found a small part of a Hella documentary which has some great live footage. The only way you can get a copy of the documentary is to email the guy who made it. It looks interesting, and I really want to see some more live stuff by them.

Fucking incredible. I don't really care for the new lineup, though. They were better as a 2-piece.

I haven't heard anything with the new line up. I checked them out a while ago when they were duo. Fun stuff!

I like the new lineup in the sense that they were able to play the songs from church Gon Wild/chirpin Hard live now that they had the extra people to cover the keyboards, bass, and the other stuff. I think the band has the potential to be better with the new lineup.

But as far as their latest album with the new lineup, I'm not really getting into it. I thought "cool, the amazing-ness that is Hella can now expand their sound beyond drums and guitar to make even more amazing stuff," which didn't really happen. Although the crazy noise drum and guitar duo are still there in the album, it is more in the backround. But the music is great for when you want to listen to something a bit more pop-ish but played by a great band. The song "The Things People Do When They Think No One Is Looking." If I want somethin with that whole verse/chorus/verse/chorus thing, I would rather listen to it done with some originality.
