Sup. Was gonna post this in the Reccomendation thread but what the hell.
What should I download by Throbbing Gristle?

^^^
I would suggest D.o.A. The Third and Final Report and 20 Jazz Funk Greats

personally i say dive right into the nitty gritty and start with the four live volumes

^So do you want to scare him off, or maybe to lure him in?

:)

i was just looking at their "rateyoumusic" page....god damn they released a bunch of stuff....here i always thought 2nd Annual Report was their first album....but there are 10 live albums before it...

did you ever see the Live At Oundle School video?

insane right?

i feel that Throbbing Gristle is best 'heard' live...both recorded and in person

and volume one has an amazing version of "Very Friendly"....one of their finest moments

Well it was their first proper album.

All the stuff that came before it were just untitled improvisations that were recorded at live gigs & sold on cassette.

I watched some of it on youtube, but not the whole thing. Yeah it is insane from what I've seen.

I don't know if I heard that "Very Friendly" version. Is it the same as the one on The First Annual Report? That one is about 18min. long and is great.

bob. 10-08-2010 02:05 PM

it's a bit shorter actually :)...around 15 minutes

it's a lot fuzzier and just mean, scary and nasty sounding....which is perfect considering the subject matter....

i was just think...seriously if i was to sit down with someone and introduce them to Throbbing Gristle...i think i would insist on them also hearing all the early Psychic TV, Coil and Chris and Cosey songs also...i really think that those early recordings all encompass what Throbbing Gristle was but in separate incarnations...ie Psychic TV -drug addled death cult; Chris and Cosey - subversive sexuality and transgression; Coil - thelemic male sexual energy

dankrsta 10-08-2010 02:27 PM

^Yeah you're absolutely right. I mean all those bands from the early Industrial scene just don't go one without another. They're like one community. Have you listened to Monte Cazazza btw?

Really? I must admit I've never dug deeply into the meaning behind music. But, maybe that can be felt from the music itself. I don't know, I somehow always neglect Coil. Hmmm, interesting...

it's been a long time since i actually sat down and listened to Monte but i remember it being an experience :)...actually i swear i recently read something about him recording a new album with Chris and Cosey....i love reading his writings and the stuff about him....his essay in Apocalypse Culture about who breakfast cereal companies are brainwashing children into sugar addicted product consuming zombies is classic...and the story about him walking into unsuspecting San Francisco homes and lighting a bag full of dead cats on fire is one of a kind

i have to admit that out of the three post Gristle bands...Coil is my favorite...seriously when you sit down and listen to Scatology....it radiates with the use of Thelemic practice to harness male sexual energy
