Default Respect Sextet

Well Avant Garders... I just saw these guys in New York last night. There are 3 horns, and your usual (but not your usual) rhythm section consisting of piano bass and drums. The group trades between really free and super organized material. However the distinction between the two, believe it or not is blurred. At the show I saw last night they played 12 one minute compositions and 12 one minute improvisations in between each piece. Each member composed two of the pieces. It was quite like a much more organized/ well thought out Naked City. Also replace grindcore with old school swing. Somehow this makes sense to me. The drummer, Ted Poor, I've talked about a few times on this forum and he always deserves another mention. I seriously think this guy is the best drummer alive. They are on myspace. Enjoy.
