And So I Watch You From Afar
 

AND SO I WATCH YOU FROM AFAR formed just 3 years ago in 2006, their self titled, debut full length album was released last month and I've been spinning it quite a bit recently. First brought to my attention due to their current UK tour with the fantastic MAYBESHEWILL they play a blend of very mathy post rock and sharp, aggressive instrumental metal. In my own humble opinion they craft quite an intelligently structured form of post rock/metal, maybe a little more complex than a lot of the exceptionally long and ever growing line of similar instrumental bands which has made this record and this band stand out somewhat from the rest of the genre that I have been absorbing gradually over the last year or so.


There has been a lot of hype surrounding the bands live performances, with the NME and Kerrang! as well as a lot of their local press in Northern Ireland so far up their arse's at times it must have stung a little afterwards but having had the good fortune to see them play with MAYBESHEWILL and local support GUARDED BY ROBOTS at the Head of Steam in Newcastle just last night I can say that at least as far as I am concerned their explosive, energetic and aggressive live performances deserve all of the positive press. They still have a lot of touring of the UK to do this year including a number of oversea's festivals and a massive gig with the mighty CLUTCH in Leeds later this year and so I would expect a lot more exposure to come over the following months and years.

This sounds like my sort of thing as I am enamoured with maybeshewill and of course 65daysofstatic.

Although I liked their record the first time I heard it, it's getting better and better with each listen which, even though I may have trouble putting it into words, makes me fall in love with it because 99% of the time that doesn't happen with post-rock. Not for me anyway. I'll listen to an album once and I just instantly get it, theres nothing more to take from it with further listens. This is an exception which is why I think I'm digging it so much.

They arent as similar to 65daysofstatic as Maybeshewill, but if you dig those bands you should like these.

The s/t is exceptional. Really blew my mind the first time i listened to it. And i agree, it gets better with every subsequent listen.

Just checked out the samples on Amazon, sounds good.

I'll admit i haven't listened to it in a little while but after seeing them and downloading their album (i downloaded their album first, a few days before) it got a fair few plays. Their live show is well worth seeing as i didn't expect what i got. They were far more energetic and aggressive then i thought they would be.

I found out about them on Last fm b/c of my recent infatuation with math rock. I've really liked what I've heard and will definitely give their album a listen. Its still surprising to me to hear music of that technicality and complexity sound that good live. Really goes to show how good the musicians are.

They've been my soundtrack for the past few months. I prefer the new album over their previous EP highly... Best track on the new album in my opinion is A Little Bit of Solidarity Goes a Long Way. It's got a section in the middle that sounds pretty similar to Explosions in the Sky
