CLARA CLARA (Fr) infinity (LIVEQUEST #27)

I'm looking for recommendations on music that is experimental but still incorporates traditional instruments and styles. If that makes any sense, I'm not sure how to really describe what I'm looking for. I guess some similar bands would be pink Floyd, radio head, 16 horsepower to name a few. They don't have to be technically experimental, just really unique sounding.

Have you ever checked out Hawkwind? They might be in the ballpark of what you're looking for.

By the way, they have shitload of albums. I'd recommend checking out Hall of the Mountain Grill.

Just how out there are you looking for? In the strain of jazz, Digable Planets are good. Dalek's pretty cool too. They use droning and ambiance, but channel all the lyrical content through rapping.

So like freak-folk? Seeing as you mentioned those artists I'm not sure what to post. I'll just recommend a variety of different artists that retain accessibility, but aren't really boring.

Macha, Henry Cow, Stereolab, The Books, The United States of America, Faust, His Name is Alive, Popol Vuh, Agitation Free, The Angels of Light, Rhys Chatham.

All quality artists extending from Psychedelic to minimalism.

Lol, the Raincoats are just straight up post-punk. I think the whole term 'avant-garde' is silly, but It's also where I'm most likely to get any discussion on this site. I suppose some innovative pop musicians would be Pram, Brigitte Fontaine, Moonshake (warning: hard voice to get used to for some), Macha (been enjoying a lot recently), Long Fin Killie, and maybe Broadcast?

If anybody's into post-minimalism or modern classical, could anyone recommend me something similar to Paul Dresher, or Ingram Marshall?

Maybe even some drony guitar based symphonies that are up to par with composers like Glenn Branca or Rhys Chatham?
