Callisto

Callisto is a post-metal band from Turku, Finland.
The band was formed in 2001 in Kokkola (my hometown) but later relocated to Turku.
When they first started out they were inspired by "post-hardcore bands" such as Neurosis and Breach and this can be seen in their early material. Now after nine years they have evolved into something quite different. From the ferocious and loud first album True Nature Unfolds to more cinematic and soulfull second album Noir. The first two albums used mostly harsh vocals but their third album Providence released in 2009, introduced a new vocalist Jani Ala-Hukkala and a wide use of clean vocals. The old vocalist Markus Myllykangas didn't leave the band but now concentrates on playing guitar.
Their sound is deeply rooted in somber atmosphere and beauty in melancholy. They have used unexpected instruments in their music, for example saxophone, cello, flute and English horn.

Recommended for fans of Isis, Cult of Luna, Neurosis and Tool.

Band members:

Jani Ala-Hukkala - vocals
Markus Myllykangas – guitar, backing vocals
Johannes Nygård – guitar
Juho Niemelä – bass
Ariel Björklund – drums
Arto Karvonen – keyboards
