Default Midori

Imagine if Koenji Hyakkei's token intensity and insanity was personified not by rigorous time signature changes and technical prowess, but by the pop format of songwriting. That's how I see Midori (ミドリ in their native tongue, I presume). Their album セカンド (Second) shows a band capable of performing both ballad-esque songs and anthem-like fast-paced ones, both injected with a charisma and immediately identifiable sound.

Somebody told me there's a lot of Japanese music like this and that I shouldn't get excited - in which case, I hope to 'not get very excited' about every artist like this.

Can't find any of their studio work on YouTube, although you can hear somebody playing a piano part to one of their songs; if you like the piano part played under some chaotic rhythms, you might want to look into an album:

I'd assume this is them being insane live:

I'm sold, because of the second clip. I'd like to hear an album version of that 'song'. Is it on this "Second" album you mentioned?

To be honest, due to the language barrier and the quality, I can't even tell - though the title doesn't seem to be on Second. Although, you'd get the same style/sound from likely any of their releases.

Not bad. Very interesting. I wouldn't quite say they sound like Koenji they majorly lack the sheer graduer, and force of Koenji.

However, I think they very much remind me of the more humored approach of say Boredoms. Especially with the second clip, a smile on my face the whole time. It's nice though to see such strange punkish music with just heavy jazz undertones. Two completely dead American art forms brought forth with such humor, fun, and originality...

Really, this is what music is about.

Midori is such a good band. I wish their albums weren't so hard to find, or expensive.

Same singer as Midori
