Wolfgang Dauner
Going to get into this guy quite soon. I am aware that he has made a few Jazz albums as well as using synths, but I think he is generally accepted as an Avant-Garde artist.
First album I'm checking out: http://www.longhairmusic.de/coverwolfgangdauner.JPG Wolfgang Dauner Quintet - The Oimels I'll get back with some thoughts. |
^ That was some good sh*t.

So nobody?

Still nobody?

I really enjoyed Output as well. Smoked a few joints and sat back to it.

Yes, very interesting psychedelic fusion. He collaborated with two other great german names of jazz-fusion : Volker Kriegel (best known for his work with Dave Pike) and Albert Mangelsdorff (brass band fusion in the late seventies and free-jazz with Elvin Jones).

Some of his best stuff is with the band Et Cetera and their self-titled album as well as the live album are well worth checking out.

This morning, the focus of this game, http://www.musicbanter.com/games-lis...litz-game.html , is Goofle's thread. The music of Wolfgang D sounds pretty interesting to judge from the few comments so far, so I'm off to listen right now, and perhaps Goofle will have more luck with comments today than he did when he opened the thread back in 2012.
EDIT: thanks grindy; I'll explore there too |
i have nothing to say about the topic at hand
|
^ Thank you for commenting that you have no comment. :) I'm sure that will gratify Goofle immensely after his five-year wait for input.

Well, I'm doing due diligence by listening to grindy's clip, though at one hour long, I've taken a few breaks in it.
There are many sections or moods to Et Cetera's self-titled album, some more successful than others. What I assume is side one has a spoken-word track which I didn't like much, plus a drumming interlude which I felt went on too long. But there's some good bass/organ playing, a nice track featuring acoustic guitar and a long slow piece with sitar(?). Now at 45 mins in we have one of several free-form bits, leading into some elec guitar which reminds me a little of Peter Green's End of the Game album. Overall, I'd describe this album as exploratory jazz rather than Avant Garde, and it's definitely interesting enough to come back to imo - but first I'm going to see specifically what caught Goofle's attention, and hopefully learn in passing what instrument W Dauner plays. |
Output is one of those LPs I grew up with too.
Plus, there's this live show with Coryell. |
