Default Can Psychedelic Music Be Made... Without the Influence?

Question speaks for itself; is it possible to make the music without being under the influence? Why or why not?

oh my god yes. however i think that you hardly need ANY "psychedelics" (to me psychedelics and drugs are the same thing) to be able to make psychedelic music. your music will be the first thing that the drugs will affect, if anything. imo heres how to make the best psychedelic music. spend 5 years playing music sober. dont really concentrate on psychedelic music, although if you wanna do, then do what you wanna do. then do a ****ton of DMT. or you can even use a bong rip of weed if your sharp enough with your mind. you will be playing the most psychedelic music ever. i think that after that, the best psychedelic music you make will be made when your sober

^Interesting point.

I think the problem with making psychedelic music while sober is finding the motivation to make psychedelic music

It seems like you can't have one without the other. I'm sure you could make it now since the blue print is already available. But, back then... it's hard to say. My argument for needing "influence" would be to look at some the legends we hold in revered light from that period; Peter Green, Roky Erickson, Brian Wilson, Brian Jones and Syd Barrett. They are considered some of the brightest, most creative minds of the psychedelic period and they're all considered "acid casualties". Clearly, their genius is associated with psychedelics, specifically LSD.

Whether or not they actually relied on psychedelics, along with everyone else from that period is probably individual to the artist. Total buzzkill answer, I know. But it's probably the truth.

Of course it can! Thats the magic of it! You don't need drugs to realize the things that you need to make this kind of music, you just need to learn to chill the **** out, and play.

Rely on your dreams maybe, and memories from your childhood. While a lot of great Psychedelic music from the past (Beach Boys at their prime, the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix) and even today (Animal Collective and so on) expand their mind with the substances, if you look at the imagery, inspiration, and tone, a lot of it goes back to dream-like worlds, engraved images, and the wonder and possibilities of childhood.

Hallucinogenics scare me honestly, so I'm gonna be relying grass and the aforementioned inspirations myself.
