Please break down Krautrock for me.
And provide some essential listening while you're at it. Late to the party, but this genre now intrigues me.
(P.S. I didn't get into The Beatles until the early 80s, and The Stones until about 10 years ago.) |
Why is this in electronica? lol.
|
Because he really needs someone to explain krautrock to him.
|
I googled and Kraftwork came up. Aren't they considered electronica???
HELP ME!!!! http://www.the-filmreel.com/wp-conte.../07/fly_02.jpg (Ex, move this thread to where it should be. Thanks.) |
It's when the DJ hands out sauerkraut at raves.
|
This is better than the Prog/Psych sub so it stays here.

I don't want to discourage anyone from exploring new areas,
but I just want to say that everything that "krautrock" represents sits in complete opposition to what I know of your personal tastes. Basically, the British and American ideas of blues and rock 'n' roll are completely antithetical to the German rock movement starting in the late 60s. But, of course, if you're open to its openness of form, then there are some well-produced videos out there on YouTube that will open that mysterious, kosmische door. |

It's still energetic music with drums and guitars. If you take that perspective, it might as well fit Chula like a glove.
|
Knowing your taste chules...I'd start with Can and Gila and take it from there. Not sure if Popol Vuh or Faust would please your ear but it may.
|
I bet Chuler would dig Yeti
|
Just listened to the Can track Future Days and loved it. Streaming the whole album now.
|
Tago Mago and Ege Bamyasi are their best and most accessible imo.

Tago Mago is one of the very best albums in the history of music and is definitely mandatory listening.

Sometimes it genuinely scares me. |

It was so awesome coming around to both bands later on. |
I've yet to hear a complete album from any of those bands mentioned just above.
|
I'd agree that Tago Mago is a good album to start with, Chula; it has the feel of a studio jam, which I imagine you'd enjoy. After that, here's a collection of MB threads I put together once:-

Did you say Free? |
For a while I lived in a town 30 miles from London, and the countryside around the town was popular with rock stars who were buying their first mansion. I was friendly with a guy whose friend lived right near Paul Rodgers' house. This friend-of-a-friend used to feed PR's dogs when he was on tour and one night I was right there, sitting in a car outside PR's house while the guy went in to feed the dogs! Mega-cred for me, amirite?
|
Hey Chula, my two cents here is that you might really dig the album Deluxe by Harmonia:
|
The title track from that album gets so much play around here,
that I get worried that my wife will some day permanently strap some headphones on me with this song playing and set me outside the house like a porch goose. |
Porch goose?

Is there some sort of intentional meter to Rostasi's posts?
'Cause if so, ****, that's some dedicated foruming. Makes me wanna post only in iambic pentameter. |

I find it funny that Chula got interested in krautrock as an electronic sub-genre but not as a prog sub-genre.

I long for the days when music was either Rock, Pop, Blues, Jazz, Classical, Country, Heavy Metal, or Gospel. How many genres are there these days? More than a thousand? Ten thousand? |
