Default The Mountain Goats

I'm just wondering if there are any big Mountain Goats fans out there. I love their new album "The Sunset Tree", and was always a big Neutral Milk Hotel fan, any opinions on how the two bands differ and which you like bettter and why? Personally I enjoy the usage of horns that is prevelant in Neutral Milk Hotels musci and the music seems a little more adolecent to me which is a quality I like.

I've never heard Neutral Milk Hotel but have heard a lot about them.

I do like the Mountain Goats. We Shall All Be Healed is my favorite of what I've heard so far. The Sunset Tree is pretty good as well.

Isn't the MG's folk, and isn't it one guy?

I've heard "anti-music song" which is ****ing awesome, I feel that song was written in the voice of MB, bitching about copy cat loser musicians

and I've heard some song with the refrain "there a monkey in the basement" and that song was mighty good.

NMH are a bit more baroque, and in my opinion, a whole lot better. Not to say the Mountain Goats aren't great.

I like the new album, and the Silver Jews cover they did. That's all I've heard by them, bar a few random songs ("Going to Georgia"!!!).

I was realy impressed by 'the sunset tree' and 'all hail west texas', i cant stop listening to pale green things. Ive never listened to Neutral Milk Hotel but will make an effort to get hold of a cd.

I love the Mountain Goats, there's such a great sense of escape in "This Year" - although most songs seem to be about his abusive step father!

bump

I love John Darnielle. Nine Black Poppies and Tallahasee are my favorite albums. I think people on the indie board would like this sort of stuff, go check it out people.
