The only that when ppl ask me if I get Bob Dylan that'd be Infidels the collaborative one with Mark Knopfler way back in the 80s all of the others, I don't get him, I think it's about his voice for me!

Just two one-line posts in the year since I put a link to Dylan's Bootleg #13 release, so obviously MB as a whole is not very excited about all Dylan's archive material.

Perhaps this latest one will be different as More Blood, More Tracks (Official Bootleg Series #14) focuses on Dylan's best regarded album.

I like Dylan, but I was disappointed to hear how lame his version of The Man In The Long Black Coat is compared to Joan Osborne's cover. The original is from a time where even Dylan die-hards were rolling their eyes at him, so I guess it's no surprise it's not his best foot forward.

^ Long Black Coat has some great lyrics, but Dylan's singing (O Mercy version) doesn't work for me either. I'd never heard Joan Osborne's version 'til I read your post, so thanks for the tip, MicShazam - JO does the song justice better than BD.

^ Yes, Ori. This is a great song, and a neat video too. Not many songs have an impact on first listening like this one did on me in 1965: I was only eleven years old, playing on the floor in a neighbour's house, when this song made me snap my head round and stare at her radio. I'd never heard anything like it before and could hardly believe that aggressive rapid-fire singing.

That cover is from the mid 90's, but it just so happens to be that she put out an entire album of Dylan covers a few months ago. I like Osborne a lot at her best, but I'm a bit worried about that album. Gonna have to give it a chance eventually.
