The only reason the Dixie Chicks got any is the left in this country wanted to lift them up after they were beatten down for their stupid anti-war and anti-bush remarks. Oh and THEY AREN'T COUNTRY ROCK!!! They're pop country :soapbox:

MURDER JUNKIE 02-12-2007 09:23 AM

Agreed

But as far as pop country goes that album is actually pretty good. I can't think of another pop country release this year that deserves a Grammy, the right album won. Believe me I am not a fan of pop country and I would never say that this album was solid if it wasn't. After all that album has a lot more artistic merit than Honky-Tonk Badonkadonk or any of the other pop country fluff currently being pimped by mainstream country radio

musiklover 02-12-2007 10:43 AM

Dixie Chicks rule!!! I love them!!!

jnbammer 02-12-2007 09:56 PM

I think Rascal Flatts and Dixie Chicks will open up more doors to attract fans than anyone else right now.

Luthier 02-13-2007 02:37 PM

Rascal flats and the Chicks with ****s aren't country, they're pop. If you want to her some good country/rock check out the flying burrito brothers, Gram Parsons, Drive-By Truckers, Hank Williams III, Uncle Tupelo....

MURDER JUNKIE 02-14-2007 06:04 PM

Check out some Wayne Hanc0ck Luthier

Sneer 02-14-2007 06:40 PM

who in the blue hell are the dixie chicks?

*dave* 02-28-2007 10:59 AM

Well I was a one track Rock Fan but love Shania Twains music. Listening to her introduced me to the likes of The Dixie Chicks, Faith Hill, Drive by Truckers, Trick Pony (who I cant stop listening too) and many many more. I get laughed at but do I care? Do I Hell!!!

sleepy jack 02-28-2007 05:49 PM

That one song thats like youre still the one i run to and so on is basically the best song ever.

Not really but its fantastic and i'm going to cover it someday.

TheUsedToolguy 02-28-2007 09:15 PM

I disagree, I think the best country song is either:
Leann Womack 'I Hope You Dance' or
Bonnie Raitt 'Let's Give Up Something To Talk About'

And I would have to disagree....

They're are not the bests of anything..really..with 6 billion people in the world...there are no "bests" or "greatests" everyone has their own opinion on topics like that..which means there will never be a conclusive best list or greates list anywhere.

Maddest_Hatter 03-01-2007 01:27 PM

I enjoy a lot of the modern country music that is out there. My favorites are Toby Keith, Brooks and Dunn, Alan Jackson, John Michael Montgomery, Montgomery Gentry, Alabama, Confederate Railroad, etc...

I love the old stuff too. Hank Rules! Johnny was THE MAN! Willie is freaking great!

I'm assuming everyone knows it's only my opinion I'm stating. Everytime you say a band is good, I could argue and say there's no way of proving that, I just forget to put the IMO in sometimes, but it's probably safe to say everyone is stating their opinion in these posts.

TheBig3 03-01-2007 05:50 PM

Ok this is way out of control but I agree with oojay, most genres suck these days on a large scale because money > honestly/talent/artistry. sam Phillips may have been a capitilist money-grubber, but he knew **** when he saw it.

Most of the older is often times more authentic, least thats how we see it since all the crap's been weeded out.

I understand the IMO..I get it..but I was diplomatically saying that your opinion of those two songs being the greatest..and one isnt even rock country was...a little off.

TheUsedToolguy 03-02-2007 03:58 PM

I don't even know what rock country is, but I bet it sucks.

Ma Cherie 03-02-2007 07:53 PM

TheUsedToolguy 03-05-2007 03:59 PM

Its just as much a folk album as a country album, and to consider Bright Eyes country rock based on that one album is a pretty dumb thing seeing as you have Digital Ash that came out at the same time which is that albums opposite.

The most 'country rock' song he has is Four Winds and when you put that up with the rest of the EP, it still doesn't work.

phantom1961 12-22-2011 06:07 PM

Here is a more modern style of Country Rock.

phantom1961 12-23-2011 10:12 PM

Jason Aldeans ok..Does'nt he do "Dirt Road Anthem?..I like that song.

Janszoon 12-23-2011 10:19 PM

Shouldn't this music just be called "Cock"?

I'm not familiar with that particular single phantom. I haven't listened to his most recent album besides a couple of singles on it. I have Relentless and Wide Open and like both albums. He actually has a lot of material that is half way descent, at least 80% of his music anyway.

I haven't listened to very music Country music for the last couple of years. So..

 That label would defiantly fit. Country Rock (Jason Aldean) = (Cock) he, he..

phantom1961 12-27-2011 01:52 AM

Well,i'm not exactly a huge country fan myself..other than a few of the older guys mentioned (Johnny Cash,Hank & Hank jr,Willie Nelson,Merle Haggard,George Jones and Conway and a few more that i mentioned from that era) and also since my wife likes it i'm pretty familier with a lot that she listened to back in the 80s and 90s Which i also mentioned a lot of.I can listen to it now and then..even some of the more modern country every so often, tho my main music preference is classic rock and southern rock,(which i suppose is very similar to Country Rock) and even a lot of different generes of hard rock and metal, but i'm not above listening to a little country now and then.Hell,I like a lot of different music,as do others here i'm sure.

Actually tho,by country rock I usually think of The Eagles,Poco,Pure Prairie League,Jackson Brown etc..but y'know.a lot of country and country rock sort of overlap it seems to me!:band:

ThePhanastasio 12-27-2011 02:24 AM

What about Gov't Mule? It's certainly blues tinged, but the country influence is indisputable. Plus, they put on one hell of a show.

To add to my country rock classification; they jammed out for their sets, only to close with "The Ballad of Curtis Loew".

phantom1961 12-27-2011 09:15 AM

Yeah I love Gov't Mule..I just allways considered them more blues rock or southern rock ..Warren Haynes is the man and the band is actually one of my favorites lately..but,anyway, i just hate generes alltogether!

lauren825 03-21-2013 11:11 AM

Have yall heard Scott DeCarlo? He's epitome of country-rock. Its good music though!

Look up "Havin' A Good Time"...it will be stuck in your head the rest of the day

Necromancer 03-24-2013 01:29 PM

I'll go out on a limb .. again! And suggest that Dwight Yoakam is the king of "Country Rock".

catherinebell09 05-02-2013 04:22 PM

I agree, the genres are definitely blending together in modern music. I found this singer Ginnette Ward who blends together some awesome country, old school, blues, rock... it's awesome.

TexasFisherman 05-06-2013 05:51 PM

Jason Aldean is the biggest blow-hard in the music industry! Him, and Taylor Swift should have there own radio station, so all the other blow-hard's can listen to them and we wont have too.

Aldean buys all his songs from Brantley Gilbert the Songwriter, and Badass Performer!

Scotty The Rebel 05-09-2013 10:48 AM

Yeah Gov't Mule are a Southern Rock offshoot of The Alllman Brothers Band. Now as far as Jason Aldean goes, he only recorded two songs that Brantley Gilbert wrote/co-wrote, My Kind Of Party and Dirt Road Anthem.

cmaggard 06-02-2013 10:05 AM

Luke Bryan is someone that still has a little of that old sound

Big Ears 06-09-2013 02:57 AM

There was a programme called The History of the Eagles on BBC 1 last night. It gave some interesting insights, particularly into the shoddy treatment of Leadon and Felder, although it glossed over the reasons for Joe Walsh's inclusion in the band. They also seemed a bit too grateful to Linda Rondstadt, and again the relationship was not made clear. From the documentary, Glenn Frey seems a bit strange.

The second and final part is on tonight at 10:30, looking at the split and subsequent reunion in the mid-nineties.

Lord Larehip 06-09-2013 08:37 AM

A contact told me that back in the 50s where he was from, if you wanted to hear rocknroll, you had to tune to a country station. A lot of "pioneers" of country started as rocknrollers like George Jones, Charlie Rich, Buck Owens (called Corky Jones back then, had a minor hit called "Rhythm & Booze" and was a member of Gene Vincent's Bluecaps around 1957).

Artists as Johnny Cash rode that line between country and rocknroll but never quite fitting into either genre. Carl Perkins was no less country than the rest of them but got classified as a rocknroller. Wanda Jackson, the Delmore Bros., Rose Maddox, Skeets McDonald, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Hasil Adkins, Jerry Reed, Marvin Rainwater and (my hero) Johnny Horton were all doing things that were definitely rocknroll and yet there is no doubt that they were all country artists.

So country-rock always seemed to me to be an artificial genre if there ever was one. Look at Junior Brown. Country as they come and here he is doing his own version of "Foxey Lady". Country-Rock is redundant term.

With that, I don't care for the state of country today. Taylor Swift does nothing for me. I'd rather listen to a Steve Earle than a Taylor Swift any day of the week. It seems that the rock has gone out of country and none of the so-called fans seem to notice. I don't mean to be too judgmental, though. But things look pretty moribund from where I stand.
