Country Rock

Over the past few years, country music has fused with modern rock to turn out some pretty good artists such as Toby Keith, Big n' Rich, Trace Adkins, and many others. I grew up listening to my grandma's old country music and bluegrass, and the classics of Hank Sr and George Jones and so on, but I think this new country/modern rock could draw alot more fans into country music that would normally shun it because of its southern "hillbilly" persona.

Toby Keith is an idiotic hick.

"we'll put a boot in your ass it's the American way."

YAY VIOLENCE!

come on, he wrote that song to help americans unite and keep hope after a major terrorist attack. its not meant to be our f'n national anthem:rolleyes:
so please dont turn this into a politacal rant. and his other stuff is good too.

DearJenny 12-13-2006 02:47 PM

I love Toby Keith. I'm not incredibly patriotic and my winterguard did a show to American Soldier few years ago. I now hate that song. But he writes some pretty funny songs. "I love this bar".

NaNaNer 12-13-2006 03:25 PM

Country is talented..it may suck but its talented..none the less. I dont like Toby Keith and no because of his lyrics..which arent his..cause so someone else wrote them but because I just dont..but I like plenty of other crap that no one likes...

jhar26 12-14-2006 02:56 PM

I like among others Mary-Chapin Carpenter, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Gram Parsons, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Loretta Lynn, Steve Earle, the Dixie Chicks, the Mavericks, Patsy Cline, the Flying Burrito Brothers and Alison Krauss.

NaNaNer 12-14-2006 03:03 PM

Miranda Lambert..Julie Roberts...Rascal Flatts..all very talented artists..

Lost Country Song Caper

on another topic...could anyone please help me remeber a country song that I've been racking my brain to re-find...I can't remember if it was sung by one of the Lee ann Rimes/Sara Eveans type divas...or if it was a one hit wonder...but it was all over the Country dial about circa 2004 or so...and had themes running through the song making comparisons to Leonardo da Vinci...and perfection...and masterpieces...and Einstein? and wisdom? Any leads would be much MUCH appreciated

Sorry, Ive only recently gotten into modern country music. Try posting it in the "Name That Tune" section. Youd probably get more responses there.

I personally hate this trend. The lyrics and vocals tend to be generic, the instrumental is usually underwritten and overproduced. I'd take true to the roots any damn day, though I do like alternative country because it focuses more song writting.

true, but that is true of most genre's nowadays. but it is still a way to draw in new fans.

whats with the red and blue? has Mr. Sensitive brainwashed you?

To show which part I'm referring to. What's wrong with trying to be as coherant as possible? And better yet who cares?

so you dont think its good for a genre to widen its fan-base?

swim 12-17-2006 06:13 PM

I don't think it's relevant to anyting. All that's important is an album and what's on it.

but you can have the greatest record in the world, but if youve got no fans, then it wont mean a damn thing.

Yeah it will, you know you put out the greatest record in the world. Depending on what kind of person you are, thats better then having all the fans in the world.

swim 12-17-2006 06:29 PM

Why wouldn't it mean anything? Music is the same no matter how many people are behind. If it's truly a good record someone will like it and pass the word.

Well whats the point of making music if you dont want others to hear it?

swim 12-17-2006 06:33 PM

The point of making music is to stretch pass what's been done before and make someone else feel what you're feeling when you wrote it. It's not about people liking it or even being heard. It's about expressing yourself.

makes sense. too bad its wrong. if that were true then there would be no CD's or concerts, b/c bands would be making music simply to appease some grandiose sense of selp-inportance, and wouldnt care about sharing it with the world.

It's true for me and I do shows once a month and I hand make cd-rs for the like 2 people who asked. Music is always selfish whether it's to appease yourself with what you write or to make money.

Why do people always throw this up?

If you enjoy what you do you wouldn`t care if you play to one person or one million people.

swim 12-17-2006 06:41 PM

If I didn't have to change a single note I'd do it. But what I write isn't to make other people happy. It's to make me happy. There has gotta be more joy from people liking you for what you are rather than what you try to be.

yes, but why do artists put out CD's then?

To make the music available to people who WANT to listen to it.

if they dont care, then why dont we see all the proceeds going to charity?

sleepy jack 12-17-2006 06:44 PM

Gee I don't know because maybe you like making music and not impressing other people?

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-17-2006 06:44 PM

You make more money from gigs than you do from Cds.

And why shouldn`t you make money from something you enjoy , i call that the ideal job.

its not about impressign people, the whole point was that swim said it doesnt matter if there is a fan-base, which is rediculous.

word up.

also if you're in NC we're playing three/four new jams at these places:
Jan. 6th @ some house in charlotte (check the myspace for deets)
Jan.7th @ The Flat Iron, Greensboro, NC w/ shaking hands w/ danger & descolada
Jan.20th @ The Turducken House, Greenville, NC w/ the sibs, the breathing, and more.

all next to free. check out our myspace for additional information.

I said a widened fan base isn't relevant.

97% of country rock is done in bad taste, with the lyrics and music being incredibly corny and generic. I GUESS you could say im not a fan.

Loser 01-26-2007 02:01 PM

Isn't this genre called Rockabilly:confused:

swim 01-26-2007 02:03 PM

No. Rockabilly is like Elvis and Country Rock is well turn on your radio and find a country station that doesn't play the classics.

Luthier 01-27-2007 02:05 PM

You people obviously have no idea what you're talking about. Toby Keith is country rock? HAHAHA all that crap on the radio is pop country. 4 pages and no mention of Gram Parsons or The Flying Burrito Brothers the founders of country rock... SAD! Country Rock is bands like The Drive-By Truckers, Uncle Tupelo, Gram Parsons, The Flying Burrito Brothers, even alot of the Eagles stuff is country rock.

Wentzforthwithhaste 02-12-2007 06:17 AM

Now didn't the Dixie Chicks Do well http://www.thelondonpaper.com/cs/Satellite/london/news/article/1157145138921?packedargs=suffix%3DArticleControlle r&cmp=BAC-untlp

Winning all five awards they were nominated for at this years grammys.

NaNaNer 02-12-2007 07:51 AM

And to be honest they deserved at least 3 of them...
