This guy knows what he is talking about, you would be well advised to follow up on this recommendation.

Thanks There are a few modern country bands I like (mainly alternative country), but they're few and far between.

i don't have favorite favorite soo i am going to just list them as i think of them

Taylor Swift
Martina McBride
Rascal Flatts
Toby Kieth
and
Carrie Underwood
no offense, but those 2 above are really terrible lists. am i the only one who absolutly loathes rascal flatts? one good reason to hate them:

have you heard their song that goes "i met mayberry, sittin on the porch drinkin ice cold cherry........COKE." i laugh so hard each time i hear this.

Due in part to the seeming belief that country died with Johnny Cash, I offer five of my current favourite Folk/country performers/bands:

Corb Lund (and the Hurtin Albertans)
Elliott BROOD
Luther Wright & the Wrongs
Corey Smith
Pine Box Serenade

All current acts, and all very powerful country that rises well above the greasy scum called CMT.

I don't know as much about country as I would like to, but I agree that most (not all) popular country isen't worth listening to.

Here's my top 5:

Alison Krauss and Union Station
Nickle Creek
The Wailin' Jenny's
Eliza Gilkyson
Gillian Welch

And I know this more than five, but I have to add the Be Good Tanyas.

I also recently checked out the above mentioned Luther Wright and the Wrongs, they're very good.

Cross Canadian Ragweed sounds very interesting.

Definitely agree on Nickel Creek. I love the paired vocals, and stunning string work.

Luther Wright & the Wrongs pretty earned instant cult status, for having the balls to remake Pink Floyds the Wall album. More so, doing it VERY well, and making it sound both familiar and unique at the same time. Rebuild the Wall is an amazing album, but I prefer their original stuff from Guitar Pickin Martyrs.
