Luther Wright & the Wrongs pretty earned instant cult status, for having the balls to remake Pink Floyds the Wall album. More so, doing it VERY well, and making it sound both familiar and unique at the same time. Rebuild the Wall is an amazing album, but I prefer their original stuff from Guitar Pickin Martyrs.

I don't listen to a lot of country but I am going to look into all of these bands. I've heard Nickel Creek's name a few times but I never checked them out.

As I was clicking around last.fm, making sure that my picks all had "country" in their top tags, I discovered Slim Cessna's Auto Club, but since I've only heard one of their songs, I can't really put them ahead of Willie.

Nickel Creek fuse indie pop-rock with the elegant stylings of country and folk, all with a delicate orchestrated atmosphere.

Love them to bits.

My biggest issue, is there is no way I can list 5 TOP artists, I am far too obsessed with music to be able to make such lists, so I arbitrarily throw out names of artists I am currently obsessed with.

Speaking of which, for all you old school Country fanatics:

The Highwaymen: Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson. Yeah, that awesome.

matt powell's older stuff
josh grider has some really tight harmonies if youre into that sort of thing

I've listened to this stuff since I was 7 bro. I assure you it is neither the explitive that you chose to post nor ignorance my friend. Just an unbringing that surrounded me with alot of traditional country. So I'm going to brush this little comment off and call ignorance on your part, because frankly, you're the one who seems to be talking about something you know nothing about. Furthermore, if you have anything constructive to say, I would love to discuss country music with you sometime.

Nickel Creek is great live. Their mandolin player is sick.

Drive by Truckers are a band that my friend swears by, I have 'The Dirty South' on a burnt copy and I really dig that. I thank my friend for enlightening me.

Hank Williams III came through San Diego not too long ago and i'm ashamed to say I didn't attend. His music is solid and I have heard his shows are quite the crowd pleaser.

The whole, 'New Country is ****' mentality is really sad.

Yes there is tons of brilliant old school country tunes, but...

I mean, the whole country movement (asides from the sewage we call CMT) is thriving, growing, evolving and rocking the funk out.

Loving Lucero and William Elliot Whitmore right now. Really loving.
