I hate most Japanese music with an extreme passion, but ironically, my favorite band is a Japanese band.

I absolutely love the pillows, they been around since 1989 and have 16 awesome albums. The thing that I love about them is that they don't do any of that eye soar crap most Japanese rock bands do, and of course, their sound is completely unaffected by the nonsense that goes on in most of the Japanese music scene. Their lead guitarist is amazing, and the frontman, Sawao Yamanaka has written so many great songs... I love them.

Tons of great songs. My favorites album are: White Incarnation (1992), Living Field (1995), Please Mr. Lostman (1997), Little Busters (1998), Runner's High (1999), Happy Bivouac (1999), and Thank You, My Twilight (2002).

All of these albums are in opinion, completely perfect.

Other bands I like from Japan include Asian Kung-fu Generation (Sol-fa is by far their best album), but "Blue Train" is their best song hands down. And I absolutely LOVE The Chewing Gum Weekend (they disbanded in 2000), and FISHMANS (Also disbanded about 2000).

Dj Krush of course :)
Joe Hisaishi and Ryuichi Sakamoto too

Not sure if this has been posted, and I have recommended this to a couple members already...but this music is amazing:

It's from a great Japanese movie called All About Lily Chou Chou. Lily Chou Chou is actually a fictional singer from the movie played by a famous Japanese singer (can't remember her name). She continued to use the Lily Chou Chou name after the movie, though.

Yasushi Yoshida, Takahiro Kido and Akira Kosemura are all incredible modern classical musicians.

Cheba 05-01-2010 06:41 PM

Love j-songs too, esspecially kokia, utada hikaru, TOKIO))))

reeganyo 05-10-2010 07:48 PM

Love the Lily Chou-Chou song. I downloaded the soundtrack and am listening to it now. Thank you so much Duga, real good stuff.

Amber Bazaar 05-10-2010 08:42 PM

boris is one of my favorite bands, the pink album is great along with their collaboration with Sun O))))).

Another great band out pf japan is Bleach03. it's all girl band, but their crazy good. Jungle samurai is my favorite song of theirs. Also, Japans dubstep and trance scean is top notch only second to New York's scene. In my opnion anyway.

Other than music, japan is a weird place. But I'd still go to get some tats.

Glad you enjoy it. I try to spread the word on that soundtrack as often as possible...it's truly phenomenal stuff.

duga 06-09-2010 02:28 PM

You mean jpop? I don't think people use the word Jap so much unless you want to lose friends.

I love mono, melt banana and Pizzacato 5.

A much older Japanese band called The plastics are also on my fave list. They make a sorta surfsound music but in a Japanese manner.:p:

マイケル 09-21-2010 11:30 PM

No place to start like the present, I guess...

Sara Mary's "Mirror Mirror" has been my favorite single to come out this summer.

Thats very open minded of you. My only experience of german music used to be Rammstein. Evidently I should never have bothered listening to Beethoven.

OH WAIT. NO. THAT WOULD BE RETARDED.

Anybody here like Akeboshi? He's probably my favorite, everybody else seems hit and miss to me. New here by the way. This is like, my second post.

PPeeks 02-08-2011 11:58 PM

Jpop, Jrock

maybe not J-"pop"

the blue hearts
Blankey Jet City
Shinsei Kamatte-chan 神聖かまってちゃん
Rin-to-shi-te-shigure 凛として時雨

PPeeks 02-09-2011 12:09 AM

Jpop

and i need to mention some of the most important creators behind the scene
(especially those teenage idol girls groups)

tsunku つんく > Morning Musume
Yasuhi Akimoto 秋元康 > AKB48
Yasutaka Nakata 中田ヤスタカ > Perfume

recently Jpop music chart is
almost taken over by those boys or girls
idol groups.

Howard the Duck 02-09-2011 01:04 AM

i only listen to 90s J-Pop (ayumi hamasaki, MAXX, hitomi) and J-Rock (Glay, Luna Sea, L'Arc~En~Ciel) and the all-girl punk group known as Shonen Knife (they sing in Ingris, though)

these days I'm into Jap underground (Boris, The Boredoms)
