B.O.A. is a Korean group.

Favorite Japanese artists would probably be Yoko Kanno. She's like the Japanese contemporary version of Billie Holiday.
Ayumi Hamasaki is pretty popular. TM Revolution is good. And that's about it.
I probably have more faves but these are the ones I listen to most often.

Is it me or do all Korean groups have some sort of abbreviation? Ugh, seems like they have nothing but hip-hop and boy bands. *Ashamed*

A lot of the more popular Korean Artists have really long names. Or wierd names.
the chic named Eugene Parker? (Isn't Eugene a boy's name)
Cha Tae Hyun who's name sounds like a tongue twister. It's awful. I am so glad I don't live in Korea.

And I think if you live in America, the only Korean artists they'll play are the boy bands, the girl bands, and some of the R&B. They don't play any of the rappers, or any of the metal bands. (although there aren't too many of those anyway)

PS:Yoko Kanno is amazing. I've seen here live once and it's really breath taking. I

I know you'll probably neevr post again. And that's fine.

But therefor those that stumble on to this post: se7en is Korean and they're more along the lines of R&B (if it's possible) than pop.

Good Pop artists would be maybe:
Ayumi Hamasaki
Morning Musume
Namie Amuro
Maaya Sakamoto
Megumi Hayashibara
Glay

BoA is a Korean group. They are crossing over into the Japanese music industry and they are very popular in Japan.
I think they got their first break when they did a song for the anime Inuyasha a popular Japanese animated series as well comic and book series

Akira Yamaoka is kinda new to the music scene so the only thing I can tell you is that he's kinda cute the way Richard Gere is.
He's mostly known for his work with computers. He's made quite a name for himself in Okinawa. At any rate he did work on the Silent Hill video games and as I'm a fan of Silent Hill I'm a fan of him as well.

nikofan 06-15-2007 08:05 AM

A friend of mine talk about this singer niko and I was wondering if anyone knows more about him I went to nikoonline and read some things and his music is unique and if someone knows of other srtist please let me know.

saiyoucho 08-08-2007 07:04 PM

Since I'm more for J-Rock I'd go with Ayumi Hamasaki.

Advent 08-30-2007 08:32 PM

There's so much more good J-pop out there than most people pay attention to. Yeah, Ayumi and Utada and the usuals are good and everything, but there are some amazing singers and groups out there that definitely match. Tomoko Kawase's projects have always been favorites of mine because they really tend to bring something different or new to the genre. Nana Kitade is another personal favorite although her voice can get pretty damn nasally sometimes.

I also highly suggest Anna Tsuchiya, most of the Hello Project acts for the more hyperactive J-pop fan, Zone, and Zwei. And if we get into the J-rock side of things, there's a whole 'nother unexplored world there.

Ayu-Mix-07 09-22-2007 07:22 PM

am new here!!

I love

Ayumi hamasaki
Namie amuro
Utada Hikaru
BoA
Mika nakashima
Anna Tsuchiya

and the list can go on and on

Rainard Jalen 03-05-2008 07:01 AM

what do you mean by japanese music tho. a lot of japanese music is not culture-specific at all and is just rock or pop or punk or electronica or whatever.

GravitySlips 03-05-2008 06:17 PM

that's pretty much all the Japanese music you need (off top of my head). Get some Merzbow too if you're looking for noise (lol like you are) and get some Fu'ck on the Beach if you feel a sudden craving for thrashcorecrap.

Rubberchicken 03-06-2008 12:09 AM

I don't know many japanese bands (that list looks worthy of checking out ;) but my favourite that I've heard is The Pillows, just checked their wiki page and noticed that they have done work with anime:-
The Pillows - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Out of about 6 albums of theirs that I've heard the one that is the most inviting is 'Happy Bivouac (1999)', check it out!
Another good japanese band that hasn't been mentioned yet is Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, they broke up in 2003 but released alot of good material mostly around 2000.

I like Se7en, DBSK and W-ind.

Gackt21 03-26-2008 06:42 PM

Gackt, Camui

Lets talk about Gackt.

Here is some background information about him:
Gackt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

What style do you like on Gackt?
Personally I like his gothic look the most. Gackt also has his out on the town look which I like as well because he is well dressed.

Did anyone see Moon Child and like it?
I loved the movie. I think it is interesting because it uses a more realistic way of shoting movies. The clothing and hairstyles really gave me some ideas for my own hair and clothing. I am considered a fashion diva of my high school. It has an artistic way of shoting instead of how hollywood does it. Different is good when you are hanging around me.

Gackt is overpopular, but I like him.
"Vanilla" is my personal favorite.
But I liked him a lot in Malice Mizer.
I have this weird thing about wanting to see him play in Dir En Grey. Hahaa.

Dystopia 05-20-2008 11:12 AM

Ohgod.
How could you all forget Dir En Grey?!
Jeezus.
Luna Sea, Devil Kitty, and Oblivion Dust are pretty good too.

Dystopia 05-20-2008 11:15 AM

Namie Amuro.
Puffy Ami Yumi.
Angela Aki. (Though only some of her songs are pop.)
