those frenchies better hold on to their hats

SATCHMO 04-10-2008 12:43 AM

There's something inherently wrong with going to france for a country music festival. Its like going to Disneyland for a pedicure.

(sorry I have a minor foot fetish. I should have used a different analogy)

oh its a long story,...
short version is, i went through a bad break up, decided to flee for a few weeks across the big water, and paris was the worst idea i had,....after the first day walkin around the city, i spent the rest of the week holed up in the bath tub of my hotel drinking booze i couldnt pronounce, eating croissants, and reading french vouge

SATCHMO 04-10-2008 01:12 AM

Lonely and heartbroken in paris still sounds very romantic to me. I'm sorry you had a bad experience. Maybe when you go can ride a French mechanical bull and actually stay on this time.

savannah 04-10-2008 01:15 AM

ha,...whos the ass whole now,...

and it was all very,...sureal when i was there,....almost like i was outside of my body,.....it rained alot,...

OH you know what was cool though? the bathroom in my hotel opened up onto this nice little balcony, so even though i didnt leave, i could still hear the city below me,.....

SATCHMO 04-10-2008 01:28 AM

adeiu, adeiu parting is such sweet sorrow
That I shall say goodnight till' it be morrow

mr dave 04-10-2008 09:28 AM

i can't see it would be less common than anywhere else. is like tv country crap. or traditional roots music. i know quite a few people who grew up in french canadian areas who've gone to france to play traditional stuff. it's not quite country music but from a layman's perspective, it's acoustic guitars and fiddles so it's 'country' and from what i hear the people over there go NUTS for it hehehe.

but from the look of that site it's going to be a typical north american country fest.

savannah 04-10-2008 04:49 PM

mmmm,....its not tv country crap,....

this is my friend that is playing it this year,....
YouTube - Brandon Rhyder-Movin' Too Fast

and last year stoney larue played,.....who i'm a HUGE HUGE HUGE fan of,....
YouTube - Stoney LaRue - Solid Gone - Craponne, FRANCE, 2007
YouTube - Stoney Larue - Blind Man
YouTube - Ophelia
(my favorite is when they do ophelia, which they dont do very much anymore,.....)

and bonnie bishop will be there
YouTube - Bonnie Bishop Live At The Bugle Boy
YouTube - Bonnie Bishop Live At The Bugle Boy 2

uhhh and then there's asleep at the wheel,...though i cant imagine what it was like with bob wills,.....god bless bob wills
YouTube - Asleep at the Wheel - Faded Love

swim 04-10-2008 05:04 PM

This would be much cooler if this was Balkan music.

mr dave 04-10-2008 05:06 PM

i didn't necessarily mean tv country when i said north american. from the videos you linked i get the impression it'll be like a bluegrass festival (ie very traditional) but with only about 10% of the pep. if it's a free trip and you're thing then i'd say pack your bags and remember that 'baiser' means kiss in the dictionary but feck in france.

OH MY!!!!!!!!!!!!
they'll be non of that

mr dave 04-10-2008 05:19 PM

didn't mean to imply you'd be the one instigating it. just letting you know of a subtle but significant difference in the language and the slang. as in - if some dude asks you for a baiser he's not asking for a kiss.

that depends,.....can you play upright bass?

SATCHMO 04-10-2008 10:25 PM

A bit. I'm left-handed and I've yet to see a lefty bass fiddle, but I can get by backwards. I played an upside down (right-handed) electric 5-string for 2 years, cuz they really needed a bass player, I didn't own a bass and they did, and I absolutely LOVED the music we were making. Off topic, but I figured I'd digress a little.

It was jazz fusion, kinda' on the dark and aggressive side, Drums, Bass, Rhodes/B3, and saxophone.

ABSOLUTELY!!!! I am also a huge Fender Rhodes fan too, cuz you don't se it as often and you certainly don't see it showcased or played very well much at all.

one of my fav guys on the scene down here tours with a leslie,.....i get all giddy when they fire her up

SATCHMO 04-10-2008 11:13 PM

Everytime I see a b3 and a leslie cabinet I get mixed emotions, cuz I love the instrument, but I've helped lift too many of them onto stages to not be stricken with dread.

SATCHMO 04-10-2008 11:33 PM

Yeah, There's that certain way they spin, especially when you catch it changing speeds that is just like....I don't know, GOD. That probably makes sense do you, because I know YOU're talkin' about completely, so I'm gonna' let you run with that.

SATCHMO 04-10-2008 11:40 PM

Its spiritual. Maybe that sounds goofy, but I wish I could articulate what I'm trying to say
