Favorite old country singer and/or song
I like lots of old country singers, and lots of old country songs. But these would have to be my favorite songs (in no particular order;
1. You're My Best Friend - Don Williams 2. Talk Back Trembling Lips - Kevin Shegog 3. Delta Dawn - Susan Raye 4. Jake The Peg - Rolf Harris 5. Barnyard Yodel - Chad Morgan 6. The Fatal Wdding - Chad Morgan |
I'm not sure "how old" you are talking about. My favorite classic country song is George Jones - He stopped loving her today
|
my favorite country singer is Taylor Swift.her new album is very good
|
My favorite 'old' country singer is Willie Nelson (75 is old, right?), but I wouldn't be able to name my favorite Willie Nelson song... or even the Top 5. I just know that he is a national (world) treasure and it will be a very sad day when time finally claims him.
I particularly enjoy his "Milk Cow Blues" and "Countryman" albums, along with "Stardust" and "Red Headed Stranger". |
hank williams - angel of death
roger miller - walkin in the sunshine |
I Know This Girl
Enjoy my music!!!
|
"wolverton mountain" by Claude King always makes me smile.
|
Hank
|
Slim Whitman
Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys |
early willie nelson - crazy, this is the part where i cry, and hello walls are some of my favorites
|
Don Edwards - "Coyotes".
|
4. Jake the Peg - Rolf Harris :laughing::laughing:
Jake the Peg is a novelty song, sung by an Aussie who has lived in England for most of his life. I see you're in Tasmania so I'll let you off, but know that it is not a 'country' song in the accepted sense of the word. Now if you'd said Slim Dusty instead. :yeah: |
George Jones and Tammy Wynette...they made such some wonderful music together...
------- One if You want to hear a Love song...I could sing one... ...if You want to feel the fire...We could build one if You need to catch a rainbow...We could chase one... ...if You want to be together...We could be One |
Webb Pierce - There Stands the Glass
Patsy Cline - Walkin' After Midnight Faron Young - Hello Walls Ray Price - Crazy Arms Lefty Frizzell - The Long Black Veil Patsy Montana - I Want To Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart Hank Snow - I'm Movin' On Dave Dudley - Six Days On The Road Loretta Lynn - Coal Miner's Daughter Tammy Wynette - Stand By Your Man |
I don't know if this is old enough. I'm not much of a country fan, but I have always loved this song |
...I really love Country duets...Johnny and June Carter Cash...
------- Darling Companion The Loving Gift/We You gave me a blanket to keep me from the cold... ...You gave me a song I learned to sing You showed me some beauty... ...through the windows of Your Soul and You showed me a world I'd never seen... |
Song- Gimmie That Girl by Joe Nichols and Singer- Carrie Underwood or Tim McGraw.
|
Quote:
In spite of his being a total racist *******, and this not being one of his older songs, I can't help but like David Allan Coe's "The Ride". Also, this Waylon Jennings song is bomb as hell: My dad's a big Waylon fan, and he played this song so much when I was a kid. Just a good song. |
I'm gonna have to drop a mention in the way of Loretta Lynn's Coal Miner's Daughter here, and by mention I do of course mean video;
^ Classic country's virtually unparralelled for me as the genre that tells the best stories, and this here's one of the best examples of why that is. |
...another great duet...Kris Kristofferson and Rita Coolidge...
------- Help Me Make It Through the Night ...come and lay down by my side 'till the early morning light... ...all I'm takin' is Your time help me make it through the night... |
probably the entirety of Johnny Cash's Sun recordings
all of album one of Hank Williams' 40 Greatest Hits (triple album set) - including Kaw-Liga some Loretta Lynn, most of Waylon's 70s outlaw stuff, some Merle Haggard |
somewhere in-between old and new Country...Exile...
------- Woke Up in Love woke up in Love with You... ...oh...what a beautiful day am I still dreaming... |
^^ I love Exile
|
from disco to country was quite a large genre step...but they pulled it off well...Exile is about the only disco band that I listen to...
|
Only You Can Love Me This Way by KEITH URBAN is my favorite country song and I'm a big fan of Keith too. If you gonna listen to the tune and beyond the lyrics, sure you gonna love it. Keith had a great music, we can't deny it. He's great!!!
|
Patty Loveless...
If My Heart Had Windows ...if my Heart had windows... You'd see a Heart full of Love just for You... |
Charley Pride
Kiss An Angel Good Morning Well people may try to guess... ...the secret of a happiness but some of them never learn it's a simple thing... ...the secret I'm speaking of is a woman and a Man in Love... ...and the answer is in this song that I always sing... ...You've got to kiss an Angel good morning... |
|
Have I Told You Lately...That I Love You
have I told You lately...that I Love You... ...could I tell You once again somehow have I told with all my Heart and Soul...how I adore You... ...well Darling...I'm telling You now ...or the many reasons...why... I Love You Because I Love You...because...my Heart is lighter... ...every time I’m walking by Your Side I Love You...because...the future’s brighter... ...the door to happiness...You opened wide I Love You...for a hundred thousand reasons... ...but most of all...I Love You...because You’re...You |
I've alwayse been a fan of Mark Chesnutt! amazing country singer
|
now I'm all wrapped up... ...in the Arms of Your Love...Sweet Love all wrapped up... ...in the Arms of Your Love...Sweet Love to know the thrill of Your Embrace... ...is everything that I ever dreamed...Heaven was I'm all wrapped up... ...in the Arms of Your Love |
My favourite old country singer is Muhammad Rafi and song is Oh meri mahabooba tojhe jana ho to ja.
|
Gotta love teddy bear
|
The best old country songs IMO are:
"Your Cheatin' Heart" by Hank Williams "You Never Even Called Me by My Name" by David Allan Coe "Always on my Mind" by Willie Nelson |
There's also a duet between Hank Williams Sr and Hank Williams Jr called "There's a Tear in My Beer". Hank Jr found the recording 30 years or so after his dad had died, and he mixed their vocals together. They used archive footage to make a video together - it's really sweet!
|
|
I'll always remember...the song they were playin'... ...the first time We danced...and I knew as We swayed to the music...and held to each other... ...I fell in Love with You |
|
Beyond The Sunset - Hank Williams
