Does songwriting get any better than Townes? Loretta and Two Girls might be the two best songs ever written.

Good choice. I'd be lying if I said Pancho & Lefty isn't my favorite, but Don't Let the Sunshine Fool Ya and Columbine rank pretty highly on my list too.

I love Townes Van Zandt. I only discovered him last year and he's been a constant source of joy to me.

My favourite songs woud have to be;
Tower Song
I'll be here in the morning
and his cover of Dead Flowers by the Stones.

I got a version of 'Waitin' Round To Die' free with Uncut magazine about 4/5 years ago and it's a classic. TBH, I've heard the regular version and though it's a great song, something about this version is tremendous.

The sad thing is I lost the disc and havent heard it in two years, so I 'make do' with the original.

Might go listen to him now actually!

I have Waitin' Round to Die from the live album Rear View Mirror and it's my favorite version (although the performance of it on Heartworn Highways is close).

Don't Let the Sunshine Fool Ya is one of the only songs on Townes albums he preformed and didn't write. Guy Clark wrote it and recorded it but never released it until weeks after Townes death in 1997 on his album, "The Essential Guy Clark." Anyway, great song no matter what and Townes done a heckuva job with it

Yeah, I wrote that post before I heard Rake, Waitin' Round to Die or Flyin' Shoes (my new favorites).
