The Tallest Man on Earth
Can't stop listening to Shallow Grave or his EP. What do you guys think of him?
|
Never heard of him. What genre? You tube vids? External links?
|
It's indiefolk.

Cheers Swim.

Good band, I haven't heard anything but a handful of tracks but I like the material.
|
This is pretty good. Definatley what I'm into.
|
I really enjoyed Shallow Graves, and to make it even better the album was given to me by a friend who's nickname is "The Tallest"
|
Actually, I am the one who passed the Tallest Man on Earth to you :P
That said, I love his vocals, they are ALMOST cartoony, but still dark enough to hint of O'Death, while remaining very clear of being a clone or sound alike. Shallow Graves has been getting pretty regular spins around here. :D |
If you need a song to get into The Tallest Man on Earth, try this:
|
I've had the album from when it first leaked, it hasn't really grown on me though.
Then again I haven't given it much listening time I really should give it a try soon. |
I still prefer Shallow Grave to The Wild Hunt. The latter may boast better individual songs, but the former is listenable from front to back whereas I just can't get into King Of Spain and Kids On The Run.
|
Great, great artist. I could listen to The Gardener all day.
|
He's fantastic! He's one of the only folk artists I've really gotten into. I prefer Shallow Grave to The Wild Hunt but both are fantastic.
The EP is pretty damn good too although I'd gotten it after Shallow Grave so I had already heard 2 of the tracks. The other 2 though: kickass |
Didn't even know there was a second album. Getting it right now.
|
Yeah both of his albums are great!
He is so reminiscent of Dylan it is scary. Anyone else here this? His voice is even kind of similar to me. |
His second>His first.
|
His Second=His First
I love both his albums very much, I just love his music and spent a long time being incredibly addicted to The Gardner and Where Do My Bluebird Fly? Hell, the entirety of Shallow Grave I have to give Wild Hunt a few more listens but it certainly is really good. One of my favorite Swedish finds. |

The Wild Hunt has really not grabbed my attention like Shallow Grave did.
I like it raw (to quote Ol' Dirty Bastard, rip) and his rough, off-kilter vocals on Shallow Grave really do it for me - The Wild Hunt seems like a more 'mature' effort which is disappointing. |
Indeed. And somehow the sound is different. Especially on Kids on the Run. Sounds like a Bruce Springsteen song.
|
The Wild Hunt is great stuff, probably the Best Album Of 2010 Thus Far.
|
Was going to see him at the cultural center in Philadelphia, until I found out the ticket prices.. So damn close.
|
I saw him live in DC at the 9:30 club. He commanded the stage. Such an emotional concert. After his opening band, they took everything offstage except for a chair and 3 guitars. I fell in love.
|
humm, I'm gonna have to take some time to look through this guy
that above link, his voice sounded EXACTLY like Marcus' from Mumford & Sons there for a second and I was goin crazy haha. Yet this sounds damn good and while his accent sorta kills me every now and again I really like what I hear so far yet I do expect a sorta hit-miss relationships with him like I have with so many artists like him |
Fantastic singer/songwriter from Sweden. His raw voice is excellent. You love it or hate it. Did see him live twice and 12 Nov he's playing again in Groningen. If you like singer/songwriter, you should give this guy a try.

At first I was amazed at the resemblance of Kristian Mattson's voice to Bob Dylan's. His exquisitely crafted songs also remind me of Dylan's "Blood On Tracks/Desire" era songs. After listening to the full content of his 2 full length albums and 1 ep, the novelty of Mattson's performances has worn a bit thin for me. I still think he's a tremendous talent but his repertoire seems to be limited to the traditionally structured folk ballads that he writes and plays so well.
Part of Dylan's talent is his ability to absorb a diverse range of musical styles, be it folk ballads, the blues, country, jazz, pop standards, rock and roll and psychedelic music. Kristen Mattson is only 27 years old and he may well expand his musical horizons as he develops as a musician. But keep in mind that by age 25, Bob Dylan had recorded 8 diverse albums of music, and each album was remarkably different from the previous one; & 6 of those 8 albums still regularly make the lists of the "all time best" albums. The Tallest Man on Earth may be tall, but he will always live under the long shadow cast by Bob Dylan. |
I just want to thank the OP, as I was intrigued by this thread and looked him up on iTunes on Friday morning. I have listened to pretty much nothing else all weekend and now own more or less everything he has released.
The Sometimes the blues is just a pssing bird EP is absolutely sublime. Easily one of the best things I have ever heard and even taking into consideration my gift for hyperbole, that's quite a strong statement! |
I recently got "The Wild Hunt" and it's great stuff. Comparisons to Dylan are a bit unfair though, he's an obvious influence but for God's sake hes his own man.
|
He should be glad that Dylan fans are comparing him in a positive light, and not in a "YOU'RE COPYING THE MESSIAH!" kind of way. In fact, I'm surprised he doesn't get called a hack more often. Not because I think he is one, but hardcore fans tend to always draw back to that regardless.
|
He's a breath of fresh air, this guy! My personal favorites are The Gardener, Kids on The Run, The Wild Hunt and Where Do My Bluebird Fly. :)
|
I love this band. I love his Dylan-esque lyrics and vocals, he's a wonderful singer.
|
I saw that, 7ft 8... It was on the news that his shoes cost £20,000.

On the subject of TTMOE, both albums are great but Shallow Grave edges it for me. |

Never really post much in this section, but good to see there's at least one guy creating interesting folk music.
Assuming others have heard There's No Leaving Now, what's the general consensus. He's an artist that doesn't require much listening to get behind, his musics simplistic yet endearing and personally I think he gets better with every record that he comes out from under the shadow of Bob Dylan. I'm not like some saying There's No Leaving Now is the record of the year, it's not. But it's pretty damn good. |
I've always figured that Dreamer was going to be the first song I danced to at my wedding.
