Anyone have anymore Fela album recommendations, or Afrobeat groups?
Check out Fela's 'open & close' and 'underground system'.
His drummer, Tony Allen, has some good records of jazzy afrobeat.

Well, AmbientHound, if you`re still around after waiting two months for a response, I`d say :-

All the Fela Kuti material I`ve found has been pretty good, and I particularly like Shakara from 1972.
If you want to hear someone different, Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra have a lot of the same raw power as FK:-

^ What a beautiful, uplifting combination of music and video !
Coincidentally, although it doesn`t meet with all your specifications, Janszoon, this recently opened thread examines an album that you might enjoy :-

Picked this up at the famous Down Home Records in El Cerrito Ca. Robert Crumb told me about this place in response to a fan letter and it is indeed a Country/Folk/World lover's wet dream.

This album just cooks! I dare anyone to listen to this and be able to sit still! Oh and hey, this is my 100th post! Yowsa!

I must say, in my short time on Music Banter, I find the folks in the country/folk/world thread to be the most personable and musically open....Good on ya.

Question I am in great need of some Recommendations.

Hey everyone.

This is my first thread, though I wasn't sure where to ask this as there aren't a Fusion forum and it isn't exactly jazz, I guess World comes closest. Anyways, here goes.

The last couple of months I have taken a liking to Al di Meola, mostly his earlier stuff as I don't quite love the way he went after approximately Electric Rendezvous. Now, when I say "taken a liking", I mean I love it so much I listen to him daily ;P
What bothers me is that he seems to be the only one as far as I can tell who knows how to incorporate Fusion and Mediterranean/Phrygian instrumental music. Though I have found a band called Dinner Music for the Gods
( You can find them on Soundcloud / dinnermusicforthegods ) who have taken his style to a little more heavy place (See, Splendido Hotel - Dinner Music OF the Gods for where they got the name ;D ) and I have fallen for that band too. All their tunes are super kickass.

But too the point...
I was thinking that I could Throw up some songs that represent the style I am looking for, hope that anyone reads this thread and cross my fingers that someone knows something like it. Maybe someone who haven't heard this before will like it too which would be just as good to know ! :D
But I will start this list off with the undisputed most badass phrygian track ever and write some side notes to the tracks along the way:

(okay, I found out I can't post links before I have made 15 posts, but all is on youtube and DMFTG is on soundcloud)

Al Di Meola - Egyptian Danza
This piece instantly became one of my top tracks EVER

Al Di Meola - Casino
I just love the feel of sitting in an oasis with an ice cold beverage this piece has :P

Al Di Meola - Dinner Music of the Gods
although it has it's cheesy moments, like the intro and the harpsichord part towards the end , I think this one is BAD-ASS (especially 2:05) and don't get me started on the first guitar solo ;P

Al di Meola - Elegant Gypsy Suite
The main melody Rocks my world. (first track I ever heard from Al)

Paco de Lucia - Solo Quiero Carminar
Pure **** yeah !

Dinner Music for the Gods - Blood and Red Wine
Very Meola inspired. love it :D

Dinner Music for the Gods - Tijuana Werewolf
Especially 3:37 is the kind of thing i am looking for, as you can see on my comment ;P

Al Di Meola - Alien Chase on Arabian Desert
I love how much this one changes all the time while it stays on the same "topic" so to speak. (For most badass part, check 3:06)

I think that will be enough for now :P every music recommendation engine I have tried to type Aldi in to just gives me Paco De Lucia, John McLaughlin and Return to Forever. I'm not the biggest fan of John although if you know some of his stuff thats not just shredding on shredding, I'm open :)

Again, I really hope someone knows some artists in this style, because there is not enough of this kind of music. It is simply just so badass :D

Looking forward to hearing from you

Mrmogensen

By the way!
If someone knows what the name of the rhythm from Casino (intro), Egyptian Danza and Alien Chase is called, I would really like to know it ! :D
