I definitely agree on the Townes ....Blaze Foley is also great. Two Really underrated song writers.

These three might be the kinda thing you're looking for;

^ Top to bottom, that's...

Salif Keita - M'Bemba

Toumani Diabate - Boulevard de l'Independance

Baaba Maal - Nomad Soul

Those are only west African examples of good acoustic worldbeat though.

I feel like even non-Country fans can dig this track.

Tom T. Hall - Faster Horses. Speakin truth to power.

I recommend Sydney Stahl. She's AMA Hits' pick for Artist of the Month for August.

I'm not going to post a link because I'm not sure if that's allowed. But you can check out her music on the AMA Hits website.

I wouldn't bother with albums.

What style of country do you think you might want?

New Radio Friendly?

Alt?

Classic?

Well they don't make albums like this anymore. If you're looking for something in this vein its probably good to get together 20 songs, see what you like, then move from there.

If you say "good as country" I'm going to give you my favorite 20 country songs and you can't complain.
